Now Maisemore Apiaries is still a family run and owned business, looked after by Eric, Johnathan and Mark Hiam, we now have approx hives of bees all in standard National hives around Hereford, Worcester and Gloucestershire, our hives are used for pollination of all fruits and arable crops and honey production. We are based in Maisemore, Gloucester and are still working from some of the same buildings that Leo and Leslie worked in, we now supply all of the UK and Ireland and indeed all the world. Our shop is full of all the beekeeping equipment that is practical and essential to beekeeping, we are open six days a week, normally with a beekeeper on hand to answer all your questions. Wood waste is all recycled, saw dust and shavings are all bagged in our plant and used as bedding for pets and horses, timber off cuts are used as firewood. We also now manufacture wooden briquettes for open fires, ovens, chimeneas, woodburning stoves and bbqs at an amazing price of 3.50 per 10kg when collected from our premises. Last year we bought a machine for recycling cardboard, old cardboard boxes are collected from local shops and used as loose fill/packaging for all mail orders. Caring for your Hive/Nucleus Painting If you want to paint your polystyrene hive, this will help prolong its life expectancy, but only paint the outside. We advise using smooth exterior masonry paint, we sell Santex Ultra Masonry paint in two colours, Sand Dune or Brick Red, but this can be bought from any DIY hardware store. When looked after, your polystyrene hive will last 20 years+. Pic 2. You can see the Poly frame runner which gives you space to pick up the frame and should be opposite each other when assembling. Cleaning For cleaning your polystyrene hive, we use and sell soda crystals, which is totally bio-degradeable and ideal for removing propolis and wax. Soda crystals are also great on hive tools, smokers, gloves and bee suits, but please take care and wear suitable gloves and clothing when using any cleaning product. You must clean your hive of propolis and wax before steralisation. For steralisation, use a gentle bleach containing hypochlorite, which is required for steralisation against AFB
