9 Be Independent Response Services Independent is a nonprofit organisation providing a 24 hour emergency response service in the York area. Our service gives great reassurance to carers and family members when they are not there with you. Our service can help anybody but can be particularly useful for: Older people People living alone People with dementia People with long term conditions People leaving hospital People with limited mobility or disabilities Carers We will install a Lifeline Unit with built-in microphone and powerful speaker which connects to the phone line and a power socket in the home. By pressing the red button on the pendant (supplied) the user is connected to our response centre where friendly trained staff will contact family, send for the doctor or emergency services or dispatch one of our responders. For a one-off fee, we can come to see you in your home and provide a full assessment of your needs, providing you with an equipment prescription to enable you to maintain your independence.
