Below is our checklist to help you make an informed decision towards choosing who to install your new doors and what specification to go for. How to buy doors check list 1. Are the installers FENSA registered & MTC trained? Doors with more than 50% glass will need a FENSA certificate to prove they have been fitted to building regulations. As part of this FENSA now require all installers to be MTC certified. If the company doesn t use MTC qualified installers the FENSA certificate is invalid. 2. What door best suits the space? Hinged French Doors allow you to open the entire space. Sliding Patio doors give better sight lines and don t take up floor space when opened but provide less of an opening. French Doors Bifold doors; best suited to larger apertures, provide impressive openings up to 6.5m wide. 3. How long has the company been trading & what is the warranty? Most installers offer 10 year warranties but some aren t worth the paper they are written on. Choose a company that has survived at least 20 years worth of guaranteed work. This typically proves the companies competence to carry out & guarantee your installation. 4. Should I choose Aluminium or upvc? upvc has the advantage when it comes to cost and thermal efficiency due to the multi chambered profile and raw material.
