The new website contains information on everything a dancer needs to know about the Branch and its activities. I really like the interactive diary on the Home page and clicking on any day s event gives you full details, a map and the facility to add to your Google Calendar with one click. Morag Irvine has constructed this completely new site using WordPress Software and it s hosted on a free web hosting platform provided by Vidahost for UK Registered Charities For example, if you haven t booked yet for the Branch Weekend on 31st March 2nd April 2017 now s the time to do so. Just click on the Branch Weekend heading and you will find full details, cribs and the Booking Form (see back page of this Newsletter for the programmes). All you have to do is send the money! Mackie's Summer School Contest! In Newsletter Issue 4 (September 2016) I drew to your attention a competition where the prize was a free week for two at RSCDS Summer School 2017, paid for by Mackie s. I am delighted to reveal that a dancer on the Newsletter mailing list has won this prize. Hamlyns Oats Do you eat porridge? Are you attending RSCDS Winter School in Pitlochry from 23rd 28th February 2017? It has just been announced that Hamlyns of Scotland is the principal sponsor for this event. Will this mean cheaper prices for those attending? A few years ago I entered one of their competitions and won a day s cooking with Nick Nairn at his Cook School! I still use Hamlyns Oatmeal when making Cranachan. Branch Youth Development Grants The RSCDS have announced the award of three Branch Youth Development Grants to assist with projects aimed at developing the engagement and capacity of young people in the RSCDS. The three recipients are: - Central Germany Branch - Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles Branch - Glasgow Branch. The Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles project will build capacity in local schools. Using RSCDS materials and its accreditation scheme, this project aims to increase the involvement of children in Scottish schools and also to work in partnership with teachers and parent councils to make Scottish Country Dancing part of the curriculum. Glasgow Branch is working with University and other Young Dancer Clubs with the aim of linking them into the RSCDS. The project will help fund Units 2 and 3 of the RSCDS teacher training programme for these young people, all in their twenties and mostly students on limited funds, so that they can complete part 1 of their Teachers Certificate. On completion, the young people will be involved in teaching Glasgow classes on a shared basis and will be given opportunities to teach in Glasgow schools preparing for the annual Glasgow City Primary Schools Festival.

Extras: Montgomeries Rant ; Butterscotch and Honey Ramadan-ce Did you know that this dance, by John Drewry, has no original tune? The only music available to date is the CD recorded by Marian Anderson and her band and, according to Max, the tunes selected by Marian were first played as a joke but the dancers liked them so much they were used for the recording. Dancers love these tunes (which include ones composed by Schubert & Mozart). When dancing to other bands the dancers have been heard lamenting the band is not playing the original tunes. The reason is that bands do not generally play other bands arrangements as this is not the done thing! Bands can only play the same tunes if they are recommended or specified for that dance. Now you know. PAGE 9
