After a brief stop, continue through the majestic Eglington Valley towards the Hollyford Valley to the start of your walking adventure. Explore the Hollyford River and journey along the track through native beech forest and beside tumbling waterfalls. On arrival at Pyke River Lodge there is an opportunity to visit a nearby glow worm colony. (LD) Day 2: Pyke River to Martin s Bay After an early cooked breakfast, walk a short way to Lake Alabaster and learn of the history and geology of this stunning area. It s here where you will have the opportunity to cross the Fiordland s longest swing bridge. Enjoy a spectacular jet boat ride along the scenic Hollyford River and down Lake McKerrow, with glassy water and the majestic mountains above, to the historic settlement of Jamestown. Walk through the ancient Podocarp forest and discover the native giants such as, Rimu, Totara and Kahikatea, believed to be over 1,500 years old. Visit the fur seal colony at Long Reef on the west coast, where you may also witness the rare Fiordland Crested penguins. Overnight at Martin s Bay Lodge. Day 1: Queenstown to Clinton Hut via Te Anau Travel by coach to Te Anau for a short break and connect with the ferry for a cruise up Lake Te Anau to the Milford Track jetty at Glade House. From the landing, a five kilometre walk takes you to Clinton Hut where you will spend the night. Day 2: Clinton Hut to Mintaro Hut Today the 16 kilometre walk follows the Clinton River to reach Mintaro Hut, situated at the base of Mackinnon Pass. Overnight at Mintaro Hut. Day 3: Mintaro Hut to Dumpling Hut via Mackinnon Pass Hike to the top of Mackinnon Pass, the highest point on the track at 1,073 metres. After the descent, take an optional side walk to Sutherland Falls, among the highest single drop falls in the world. Continue on to your overnight accommodation at Dumpling Hut, which features spectacular views of Fiordland. Day 4: Dumpling Hut to Queenstown via Milford Sound Follow the Arthur River to Lake Ada and descend onto the track end at Sandfly Point. Stop for lunch at Bark Bay and enjoy a swim or relax on the golden sand. Continue beach hopping, taking in points of interest including Falls River and Frenchman s Bay.
