These machines make custom flags more affordable and available in quantities of 1 to 1000 s. Because of the digital imagery, the designs on the flags can be more complex. 5 Custom Appliqué Flags Method Two: Appliquéd Flags This is the oldest form of flag making. Each colored design and/or individual letter is hand cut and sewn on the front and back of the flag, much like quilting. Colors must be chosen from our stock nylon color chart available at This is an elegant process for small runs or when making flags that are too large for digital printing. Almost all American flags 6 x 10 feet and up have appliquéd stars. Vector artwork is required for this process. Close Detail Each color is a separate fabric overlayed and sewn to the flag. The design is created using thread looped and layered over and over to form a risen image on your flag. These handsome flags are edged with gold fringe. 8 Guidon Flags Guidons, sometimes called standards, are displayed and carried by all United States Armed Forces and other civil and service organizations. They are used to signify unit, squadron and/or corps affiliation. They are often given as a gift to commanding officers.
