I was curious how Jowett, a man who could clean and press an anvil with one hand, trained his grip. - Positives This book is filled with lots of anecdotes about strongmen at the time. The prose flows smoothly and keeps you interested: given its short length, you could easily read this book in one short session. The exercises are a little different and kind of cool. Aside from finger pulling contests and "wrist turning" (arm wrestling), Jowett gives heavy book lifting exercises for the fingers, and broom and brick (or sledgehammer) lifting for the wrist. These are, in Ross Enamait's parlance, "low tech, high effect". He also discusses plate lifting. But most interestingly, he devotes much time to barrel lifting. Ever wonder how you can lift a barrel to your shoulder with one hand? Probably not, but now you can learn how. Barrels may not be as plentiful today, but kegs certainly are, and these exercises would delight the odd-object lifter. - Negatives

Regretfully, Jowett does not discuss anvil-lifting in this book. - Final Thoughts This book is designed to entertain, motivate, and give some exercises you can do at home. It should be noted that it is not a comprehensive manual to hand training. I enjoyed this book much more than Molding Mighty Legs.
