Our Speakers Peter Bailey Peter Bailey is the CEO of the Foundation for Regional Development Limited. He was the founder of the Country NSW Expos that ran in Sydney for 13 years and in Brisbane for 3 years. He is now a recognised expert on tree and sea-change and is often sought out by media for his expert opinion on matters relating to country and regional living. Senator the Hon. Fiona Nash Fiona Nash was elected as a Nationals Senator for New South Wales in the 2004 federal election and in 2016 she was elected as Deputy Leader of The Nationals. Currently she is the Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories and Regional Communications in the Coalition Government. As a Senator for The Nationals, Fiona's overriding focus is to ensure that communities throughout regional Australia receive the investment and services they deserve. Fiona Reynolds Fiona began her media career at The Examiner newspaper in Launceston as a cadet journalist. She then spent 14 years as an ABC reporter, producer and manager based in Hobart, Parliament House Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane before returning to become Tasmania s first female daily newspaper editor and was appointed ABC State Director two years later. Fiona was named 2009 Telstra Tasmanian Business Woman of the Year, has a Master of Arts (International Relations). Christopher Saunders Christopher Saunders has worked as a social change initiator for over 20 years. His work with public housing tenants in the infamous Northcott Building in Surry Hills Sydney is widely recognized. Christopher has worked with Renew Newcastle for over four years enabling creative enterprises to flourish and bring life back to a desolate cityscape whilst at the same time informing urban development decision-making. Andrew McCann Andrew is the driving force at núcleo, offering a wealth of experience and passion for every aspect of the job. Software developer come marketer, with extensive know-how about digital marketing, web applications, search engine optimisation, custom databases and strategy. He has engaged with many different clients over his years working in Armidale, Sydney and Brisbane and is constantly on the lookout for new and exciting ventures.

Darren Schaefer Darren is regionally based in Armidale NSW and holds the position of Chief Marketing Officer at Regional Australia Bank and is also is part of their Executive Management Team. He has enjoyed over 18 years in the marketing and communications industry, having begun his career in the advertising sector before moving to the UK where he continued to develop his skills in project management and strategic planning. Elizabeth McGregor Elizabeth is the Regional General Manager for TAFE NSW s Northern Region and will work from many towns across her region s footprint to ensure she understands and meets the needs of industries, communities and students. Elizabeth has worked in the Australian vocational education and training sector for over 20 years, and brings an abundance of regional development experience from her roles on advisory boards for the state and federal government, and her Directorship of the Coffs Harbour Technology Park. While Director of the North Coast Institute of TAFE NSW, she grew the business from 8th to 3rd largest provider in Australia. Rob Hall Rob joined the.id team in 2015 and is an economist with more than 10 years of experience having held senior economist positions in both the private and public sectors. At.id, Rob leads the consulting team to provide economic, demographic and housing advice to Local Governments across Australia. His consulting projects are typically focused on analysing urban and regional areas by drawing together local economic, demographic and property information with broader macroeconomic and demographic trends. Working with local government enables Rob to have a positive impact on the design and implementation of more effective policy and investment. Brian Gould Brian Gould joined City of Greater Bendigo in 1995 following 5 years with Victorian Government and 20 years with Federal Government. In 1996, became Manager of Economic Development Unit and remains in that position today. This unit covers the critical areas of industry and business development particularly small business, workforce attraction and retention, Bendigo Inventor / Innovation Awards and business analysis. Wayne Lowe Wayne has held the role of Economic development for the Nambucca Shire for 19 years and has ensured Council has been the local support for economic drivers within the broader community. The Shire s unemployment rate has fallen from over 21% down to 9% with the Shire providing the facilitation of business and industry development initiatives and provision of future employment for future economic growth.
Our Speakers Cont. Michael Toby Michael Toby is the Corporate Affairs Manager for Costa, Australia s largest horticultural business. With over 30 sites throughout regional Australia, Costa employs up to 6,000 people at peak harvest times and is a major grower and marketer of glasshouse tomatoes, mushrooms, citrus, berries, table grapes, bananas and avocados. Michael has a background in both private enterprise and government. Dr Terry Rawnsley Terry is a renowned economist who provides advice to all tiers of government, not for profit organisations and the private sector. He is Australia s leading thinker on the link between the urban productivity and the macro economy and is a regular media commentator on the functioning of our cities and regions. Terry is the National Leader at SGS for Economic and Social Analysis. Laura Carr Laura has extensive experience in agri-marketing and communications, media relations strategy, digital and social media and event management. Laura has managed programs for clients including Case IH Australia, Westpac Agribusiness, Meat & Livestock Australia, Australian Meat Processor Corporation, CWA of NSW, RIRDC Rural Women s Award and Syngenta. In addition to her role as Account Director, Laura manages the strategic program office function. Gabby Notley Gabrielle is Head of Global Media at BHP Billiton, the world largest resources company and a major employer in regional Australia. She is passionate about regional Australia and the need for access to high quality education, infrastructure and opportunity for regional centres driven by economic growth. Anthony Fox A passionate advocate for regional development issues and a founding Board member and Chairman of the Foundation, Anthony has a law firm based in Armidale. Anthony made his own tree change to Armidale in 2004 after a successful career as a Partner in a national law firm based in Sydney. Anthony has been involved in the evolution of the NSW and Queensland Expos. John Lloyd John Lloyd is currently Chief Executive Officer of Horticulture Innovation Australia Limited. Hort Innovation is a not-for-profit, grower-owned company. It works in partnership with Australia s horticulture industries to invest over 100 million annually in research, development and marketing programs that provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
