Total Cargo Up 0.3% DECEMBER 2013 SUMMARY Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) served 241,181 passengers in January 2014, a decrease of (8.7%) versus January 2013. The loss is traffic can be attributed to a lack of snowfall in both late December and most of January, resulting in softened snowsports traffic. In addition, Safari Club International was present in 2013, which elected not to return in 2014. Southwest Airlines saw the largest decrease in total passengers, carrying 25,531 fewer passengers in January 2014 compared to January 2013, representing a decrease of (18.8%). The loss of Oakland, Salt Lake City, seasonal service from Ontario, coupled with Portland and Chicago-Midway service reductions, decreased the scheduled monthly totals by 149 departures with 19,545 departing seats. Overall, Southwest s scheduled departures were down (21.4%) in January 2014 versus January 2013. Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, and United Airlines all saw year-over-year January increases in the amount of 5,353 combined total passengers. With respect to air cargo, RNO handled 10,303,380 pounds of cargo in January 2014, remaining relatively flat with a slight increase of 0.3% over January 2013. January is typically a soft month for cargo, following the holiday peak in December. However, these volumes represent the second highest January on record, followed only by January 2008 before the global economy fell into recession. FedEx recorded an increase of 2.4%, while UPS and Ameriflight (DHL) posted decreases of (2.7%) and (6.2%), respectively.

In January 2014, RNO was served by seven major airlines providing 55 peak daily departures to 14 non-stop destinations. For January, our partner airlines reported a (8.9%) decrease in scheduled passenger seats compared to January 2013. Year-over-year passenger traffic on Allegiant Air increased exponentially due to the new non-stop flights to Las Vegas, Bellingham, and Oakland which were discontinued in January 2014 and November 2013 respectively. With respect to January load factors, only US Airways showed a year-over-year increase. Alaska Airlines passenger traffic increased 7.1% despite a slight (2.3) percentage point decrease in load factor. United also reported an increase of 2.4% in traffic, on increased capacity to all its markets, although load factor slipped slightly at (2.6%). American Airlines volumes decreased (3.2%) despite a slight increase in capacity. Delta Air Lines decreased (5.8%) with a slight decrease in its Salt Lake City capacity. US Airways traffic decreased (3.5%), although load factor increased by 1.8 points. Southwest Airlines decreased (18.8%) with the loss of Oakland, Salt Lake City and Ontario service as well as reductions to Chicago-Midway and Portland service compared to last year. TOTAL CARGO Total cargo volume at RNO increased just slightly 0.3% in January 2014 versus the same period last year. This was largely driven by a 2.4% year-over-year increase from FedEx. UPS saw a year-over-year decrease of (2.7%), while Ameriflight was down (6.2%) over the same period. The monthly volume still represents the second highest January on record since 2008.

All airlines except US Airways, showed a year-over-year decrease in average load factor. This, again, can be attributed to a lack of snow bringing Tahoe traffic and the loss of Safari Club International.
