Minutes of the last AGM held on 21 st January 2015: Reference was made to the minutes which had been published on the website. Minutes were accepted by all present. Matters arising 3. Matters Arising no matters arising from the minutes. Chairman s Report 4. A written Chairman s report was tabled at the meeting and is attached to these minutes. The Chairman mentioned highlights from the report, which prompted discussion among those present. In particular, the membership survey outcome highlighted concerns that meetings in local regions were too far away. As a result the Southern Region has tried in 2015/16 season to move around the region to engage more with our local members which has been received very well. We are still lacking in THSUK member numbers on evening events as detailed in the Hon. Secretary Report, however this is hoped to increase with time. The joint IMarEST meeting held in London was very successful with the presentations being recorded and now available on the THSUK and IMarEST TV webpages for all. Thanks were given to the Hon. Secretary and Treasurer for their work and help throughout the year. Secretary s Report 5. See Below.
Treasurer s Report 6. Financial activity has been low this year (Feb 15 Feb 16), with a total expenditure of 215.59 (details of what this comprises of can be found in the attached report) I have submitted quarterly accounts to the national body satisfying the auditing and VAT returns. The bank account balance at the end of 2015 is 3283.55 in credit. Election of Committee Members 7. Election of Committee members Chairman Maik Weidt to continue in post Secretary Becky Conway to continue in post Treasurer Ken Collins to continue in post Regional Representative to THSUK Maik Weidt to step down no representative elected at this point, to be confirmed in due course. Committee members William Heaps Mark Poole Joe Collins Unfortunately Martin Stemp can no longer continue as a committee member due to work commitments. We would like to thank Martin for his contribution over the past years. Rob Higgon volunteered his services as a committee member and we would like to welcome him to the Southern Region committee. Suggestions for future events 8. Suggestions discussed were as follows: Ken Collins was very impressed with formal connection now established with IMarEST and hopes that the marketing facilities, contacts, web publishing and additional resources this brings will help promote THSUK further. It was decided that due to the time of night a follow up meeting should be arranged for Southern Region committee members to discuss future events and general ideas. Hon. Sec. Any Other Business There was no other business and the meeting closed at 21:55
THE HYDROGRAPHIC SOCIETY of The United Kingdom SOUTHERN REGION Chairman : Maik Weidt, ABP Southampton, VTS Centre, 37 Berth, Eastern Docks, SOUTHAMPTON, SO14 3GG Tel : 023 8060 8213 Email : mweidt@abports.co.uk www.ths.org.uk Chairman s Report 10 th February 2016 The Southern Region has continued to host monthly evening meetings with a good variety of very interesting presentations. Following the THSUK Members Survey it was tried to move around to different parts of the Southern Region for the events to take place. This seemed successful. We did also attract a good number from other groups/ societies like Nautical Institute and RIN as well as members from the local sailing community. The Secretary provided more detailed information from the attendance and it seems that a growing number of non-members join the THSUK events. Spreading the interest and awareness of Hydrography and related subjects is an important objective for us. It is hoped that THSUK members will also take part a bit more frequently in the future if time and commitments allow. The new Memorandum of Understanding with Imarest seem to have got of the ground and we would like to highlight to our members that various announcements are in the pipeline for OI 2016. There will be lots of exciting benefits for the members in both organisations on the joint journey ahead. Please watch the website, newsletter and Soundings Magazine for more details. We were delighted that the Southern Region was the first to hold a joint event together with Imarest Southern Joint at the prestigious HQ at Aldgate House in London in January 2016. For members who did not make it to this interesting evening the attention is drawn to http://ths.org.uk/content.asp?page=9 the Southern Region webpage which includes already one recorded presentation from the event. Ready for download! The 2nd presentation is currently awaiting approval for publication but will hopefully be released soon. My special thanks go to the Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Committee members and all members supporting THSUK Southern Region with hosting, presenting and actively taking part. My work commitments however restricted my time to bring the Southern Region further in a way I would like to see the Region developing and I therefore hope that somebody else would like to take up the role of Chairman in the Southern Region. Otherwise, with the support from the committee I am willing to support the Southern Region as Chairman for another year. However, I will as off today stand down as the Regional Representative for the THSUK Board and will not be able to continue in this role due to my work commitments. I hope that another willing member can engage on behalf of the region on the Board of THSUK. Thank you, Maik Weidt
