Ever more architects are being inspired by the wide range of blade shapes and colours offered by Duco. Both the basic and the advanced versions come with an ingenious range of fixing options to make installation quick and easy. Louvre blades can be perfectly combined with other façade elements and materials. This gives façades added character. A perfect match between shape and functionality! Ideal for night cooling Duco continuous louvre walls are designed for intensive and continuous ventilation. It is for this reason that they are particularly suited for night cooling. Here, a maximum amount of cool night time air is brought in at night. The cool air is stored in the thermal mass such as concrete elements. This delays the heating-up process during the day. Those who combine this ventilation system with a sun control system will have the perfect solution for hot summer days. In short, Duco combines two natural products in order to maintain optimum indoor temperature. > intensive ventilation > aesthetic added value > quick and easy installation > easy application > basic and advanced systems Finishing touch A continuous louvre wall can be fixed to an existing façade or can be used separately as a standalone louvre that is a nonload bearing construction. Duco offers innumerable options for a stylish finishing touch with louvred doors, high performance blades and roof turrets for screening of vent openings at roof level. Duco likes nothing better than to work on a beautiful design. > Colour In addition to silver anodized (SAA) as standard, each type of continuous blade louvre and/or aluminium support system mentioned in this brochure can also be finished to any standard RAL colour and to any RAL metallic colour. Special colours are available on request. 4

> Three types projects where the continuous louvre wall is used as a façade cladding system. 1. DucoWall Solid Aluminium continuous louvre system where Z-shaped blades are directly clipped onto the support system with the Duco patented Direct Clip system. The strong louvre system requires at least a minimum back structure. The system is vandal-proof. 2. DucoWall Classic Aluminium continuous louvre system where the aluminium blades are clipped onto plastic blade holders. They are pre-fitted to the aluminium support profile and held in place with the patented Duco turn and click system. The blade holders can be fitted individually onto the support system. This gives a perfect finish. The DucoWall Classic product line offers a wide range of blades. 3. DucoWall Basic This aluminium continuous louvre system clips directly onto the support system with the Duco patented Direct Clip system. The special blade shape has been designed for both S and Z shape > Insect or vermin screen DucoWall Solid: The perforated blade profiles act as an insect screen : P1: Small diameter mesh P2: Large diameter mesh + optional stainless steel insect screen NP: Zero mesh size (100% screening louvre) DucoWall Classic (optional) Depending on the type of blade, you have a choice between : - Horizontal or vertical strips (insect-proof or vermin-proof) - Stainless steel insect mesh 2,3 x 2,3 mm (insect screen) / 6 x 6 mm (vermin screen)/ 20 x 20 mm (bird screen) DucoWall Basic (optional) Stainless steel insect mesh 2,3 x 2,3 mm (insect screen) / 6 x 6 mm (vermin screen) /20 x 20 mm (bird screen) applications. > Air flow When selecting a continuous louvre system, there is the choice between aesthetics and practicallity (airflow/water repellancy). There are several ways of choosing the most suitable system. Therefore it is important that you can rely on accurate data and values. Do not hesitate to contact Duco for assistance in making the right choice of system for your C project. Free open area (percentage rule) The free open area or percentage rule is based either on the method of physical free area or the method of visual free area. A. Physical free area Physical free area = smallest air flow area (B) louvre blade pitch (C) 6

Use this method to: > Calculate the dimensions of the continuous louvre system when a minimum net free open area is requested. Gross surface area = net free open area physical free area Example Desired net free open area : 35 m² Desired continuous louvre wall : DucoWall Solid 30Z P2 (physical free area of 48%) Gross surface area = 35 m² 0,48 = 73 m². For a desired width of 20 m, the height of the continuous louvre wall is 3.65 m (73/20). > Calculate the net free open area when the dimensions have already been determined. Net free open area = gross surface area x physical free area Example Surface desired : 20 m (W) x 3.65 m (H) (= 73 m²) Desired type : DucoWall Solid 30Z P2 (physical free area of 48%) Net free open area : 73 m² x 0.48 = 35 m² B. Visual free area largest air-flow surface (A) Visual free area louvre blade pitch (C) The visual free area uses the largest open area rather than the smallest open area. This use however is to be discouraged as the visual free area is no benchmark for the effective free area. Intensive ventilation 7

2. K factor The K factor is a value that indicates the aerodynamic resistance of the continuous louvre wall to the air flow. This factor is used when the dimensions of the continuous louvre system should be identified based on air velocity and air flow rate. Unlike the previously mentioned free open area, the K factor takes into account the differing air pressure at the louvre intake and exhaust faces. K = Ps (differential air pressure across the continuous louvre system in Pa) ρ (air density) x V (air velocity) Any continuous louvre system fitted on an opening will interfere with the free flow of air. In order to determine this resistance, the K factor needs to be calculated. When developing a continuous louvre system, the K factor is determined using a computer simulation model (EFD) first and then tested. The K factor for air intake and exhaust for each type of continuous louvre wall is tabulated in the overview table at the end of this brochure. Additionally, the associated C coefficient is given as well, which indicates the ratio of the effective flow area through a continuous louvre wall to the theoretical air flow. A distinction is made between : > Ce: For the resistance to air flow at the air inlet (Entry Loss Coefficient). > Cd : For the resistance to air flow at the air outlet (Discharge Loss Coefficient). 8

Use this method to : > Calculate the surface of the continuous louvre wall based upon the differential air pressure and air flow rate : a. Select a type of louvre blade from the table based on the K factor (K). b. Determine the maximum differential air pressure in Pa (ps). Ps = K ( ) x ρ (air density) x V (air velocity)² c. Determine the required air flow rate (Q). d. Calculate air velocity (V). V = of ps (pressure drop across the louvre blade in Pa) K ( ) x ρ (air density*) * = fixed value = 0.6 e. Calculate the surface area of the continuous louvre system (A). Louvre surface in m 2 (A) = air flow rate through the continuous louvre wall m 3 /s (Q) air velocity through the continuous louvre wall in m/s (V) example What should be the surface area of a DucoWall Solid 30Z P2 when the maximum differential air pressure that can be accommodated is 25 Pa at an air flow rate of 2500 l/s? > Water repellent efficiency The extent to which a continuous louvre wall is repellent to water on the one hand and its water tightness on the other can only be verified through testing. BSRIA is an European leading-edge independent research organisation in water tightness tests of building When tested, the louvre wall was subjected to a simulated rainfall of 75 litres per hour and a wind speed of 13 m/s (see diagram). The continuous louvre system is assigned a class in relation to the air velocity and the % of water tightness : products. The tests have been designed in conjunction with HEVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Manufacturers Association). All DucoWall continuous louvre systems shown in this product brochure have been BSRIA tested. DucoWall Door Continuous louvre systems are often used to screen technical areas that require permanent ventilation. DucoWall doors can be integrated into a screen to give an easy acces. A DucoWall door is a louvred door, assembled with blades, mullions and parts from the DucoWall product range. The door matches the surrounding screen to create a perfect unit. DucoWall Door series doors are available as single or double leaf and as inside or outside opening door. The doors may be hung to open from either the left or the right. DucoWall Door series doors are supplied as made tot measure, and when necessary, fitted with special hinges and diagonally arranged reinforcing cables. 36

DucoWall roof turrets Aluminium roof turrets are used to screen air intakes sited at roof level from view. In addition, DucoWall roof turrets provide a sufficient level of intensive ventilation of the screened plants. Duco aluminium roof turrets are made from profiles from the DucoWall Classic range and can be used to match each available type of louvre blade from this range. Duco Projects The new Duco business premises are cooled during the warm spring and summer months in a completely natural way through intensive ventilation during the night (night cooling) and sun shading during the day. The cool night air comes into the building through Duco louvres and is stored in the concrete structure of the building. This air is gradually released during the day. The warm air is conveyed to the production hall through ventilation openings made behind Duco continuous blade louvres. 40
