WELCOME ADDRESS Dear Colleagues, It is our pleasure to invite You to participate in The Updates in Pathology 2018 Tutorial, which will take place from 19 to 22 September, in Skopje, followed by visiting program on September 23 and 24, 2018, to the City of UNESCO Ohrid. This three-day tutorial followed by two days visit of the western part of Macedonia, will give an up-todate overview on the very significant topics in pathology admixed with the taste of the natural beauty of historical Macedonia. The faculty of the German Macedonian Tutorial is composed of pathologists with exceptional experience on histopathological issues of malignant and reactive inflammatory diseases. The tutorial will be articulated through frontal lectures and complementary slide seminars via interactive microscopical presentations of morphology and the use of ancillary techniques, as well as molecular approaches like immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and sequencing by invited lecturers and local pathologists. This will be unique opportunity for the young doctors to have a chance to make personal contact with colleagues and gain more practical knowledge. The targeted audience will include practicing pathologists, pathology trainees and students. Clinicians are also welcomed at this tutorial. The tutorial will focus on the following key areas: Hematopathology, Central Nervous System Pathology, Lung Interstitial Diseases, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Uropathology and Gynecological Pathology. The tutorial is organized in the mid-september in Skopje, the capital of R. Macedonia, a trade established as inter-congress meeting on every four years. Participants could also enjoy in the organized sight-seeing tours and social events that will help our guests to get to know Skopje and the Macedonian culture better. Especially attractive is the Western Macedonia with many monasteries represented by St. Jovan Bigorsky and old UNESCO protected city of Ohrid, the pearl of the Balkans which was the center of an ancient civilization. That is the place where the first Slavic University in Europe was founded, the hometown of St. Clement and St. Naum and the center of entire orthodox culture. The city is situated by the oldest lake in Europe - Ohrid lake where you will have an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of these places colored by the autumn hues. Do not hesitate to ask for help related to your registration, letter of interest or any further suggestion to the contact person and Member of Organizing Committee, Dr. Panče Zdravkovski at the following e-mail address: pantelejmon@hotmail.com. We look forward to welcoming you in Macedonia in September 2018. Sincerely, 4 Prof. Gordana Petruševska Local Organiser Prof. Hans Konrad Müller Hermelink Tutorial Chair

In 1979 and in 1980, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Archaeological finds indicate that Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements in all of Europe. The lake itself is over three million years old. Ohrid town is first mentioned in Greek documents from 353 BCE, when it was known as Lychnidos, which means Тhe city of light. Ohrid s major attractions are all located within a remarkably concentrated and eminently walkable area, among and above the narrow streets of the Old Town lined with restaurants and cafés perfectly suited for relaxing in the cool summer evenings.
