St. Isaak s cathedral and Peterand-Paul s Fortress St.Petersburg, being the second largest city in Russia, has been called The Northern Venice, Palmyra of the North and The Northern Capital. For 200 years, since 1712, St Petersburg was the capital of the Russian empire. It was built by the best Russian and European architects. The Peter and Paul Fortress, the first building of St. Petersburg, was constructed first of wood and earth and then rebuilt with stone by the mid-18th century. The Fortress walls hold the Peter and Paul Cathedral (1727), the city s highest building (122.5 m), which is the burial place of all Russian Emperors (from Peter the Great to Nicholas II) with the exception of Peter II and John VI. St.Isaak`s Cathedral is a unique architectural monument. It is the 4th largest domed building in the world! Its height is 101.5 meters. The cathedral is richly ornamented with different sorts of marble and has 112 granite columns decorating the outside.
Restaurant stroganoff steak House The restaurant is designed in a way that makes every single visit an unforgettable experience (that has always been the major dream of its keepers). The interiors are decorated with authentic moulding, which creates a warm and hospitable atmosphere. The walls are ornamented with pictures of everyday scenes before the Russian revolution. During the reconstruction we also found some horseshoes and nails, which are now gently framed, and some rings in the walls those were used for hitching horses back in the old days. All those details help people remember the history of the place.
The Hermitage The Hermitage is one of the largest museums in the world. It houses a huge collection of Western European Art, Oriental Art, Applied Art, Ancient Roman, Greek, and Egyptian Art. The collection of the Hermitage consists of 3 million items. Some say, if you want to see everything in this museum, and stand in front of each object for a minute, it would take you about 6 months! The Winter Palace is the former residence of Russian Emperors from 1762 till February of 1917 when the ruling dynasty of the Romanovs was overthrown by the Revolution. Some of the Emperors` ceremonial and private rooms are on display. Today the Winter Palace is the biggest building in the Hermitage.

In 1918 it was opened as a public museum. The Palace contains 57 halls, a chapel and a number of outbuildings. On the ground floor, the suite of rooms goes throughout the whole length of the Palace, which is unique for Russia. The Amber Hall is the most well-known hall in the Palace, sometimes called the eighth wonder of the world.
