Gruene has been designated a Historic Town by the State of Texas, but is actually a Historic District in the city of New Braunfels. The name of the town is pronounced like the color Green. Henry D. Gruene, the town s founder, originally bought land for a cotton farm in 1872 with his father and brothers. He built his first home in 1872 and modified it over the years. It still stands proudly with its Victoria galleries today as the Gruene Mansion Inn. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated Texas Historic Landmark. Our Welcome Party location, The Gruene Grove is located at 12263 Gruene Rd., in New Braunfels, Texas. They provide a full bar, a fantastic ice cream selection, live music, beautiful decor, and an awesome location in the Gruene area. Gruene Hall, built in 1878, is Texas oldest continually operating and most famous dance hall. By design, not much has physically changed since the Hall was built. The 6,000 square foot dance hall with a high pitched tin roof still has the original layout with side flaps for open air dancing, a bar in the front, a small lighted stage in the back and a huge outdoor garden. Advertisement signs from the 1930s and 40s still hang in the old hall and around the stage. In the 1800s, Gruene Hall held weekly dances and played host to everything from traveling salesmen to high school graduations to badger fights. Today, the Hall has continued to be a center for the Gruene and Central Texas social and entertainment scene. So, dust off your boots and join us to experience the unique history of Gruene, Texas!

Things to do in San Marcos DICK S CLASSIC CAR GARAGE 120 Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos, TX 78666 Dick s Classic Garage is a part of the Central Texas Museum of Automotive History. Founded in 1980, the museum is dedicated to the preservation and display of the history of the automobile. Originally opened in Rosanky, the museum is now located in San Marcos, TX. We are a 501(c)3, non-profit museum dedicated to the preservation and display of significant American automobiles for the education of current and future generations. The museum exhibits the evolution of the automobile in the United States and how the industry grew and impacted society from 1901 through the 1950s. The museum will offer free guided tours to schools and develop educationalprograms for students in several different subjects, from math to social studies to reading. Dick s Classic Garage currently showcases vehicles and memorabilia from the 1900s though the 1950s. Considered the Golden Years of American automotive manufacturing, the Museum will take guests from the turn of the century to the Great Depression through World War II and up to the rockin 1950 s. In addition, the museum will acquire and renovate vehicles that are of historic and developmental importance. The Museum s goal is to show today s guests and future generations the evolution of the automobile and how it has impacted society and the effect society has had on the automobile.
