JULY 14-15, 2015 DAIRY FARMERS OF CANADA AGM

WELCOME FROM DAIRY FARMERS OF CANADA It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the Dairy Farmers of Canada Annual General Meeting taking place July 14-15, 2015 in Vancouver, British Columbia. This meeting is an excellent occasion for dairy farmers and all industry stakeholders to get together in a relaxed atmosphere to hear about our upcoming marketing and nutrition activities, our efforts in the area of sustainability, and to be updated on policy issues of concern to all of us. The theme for this year s meeting remains Dairy Farmers: Caring for Future Generations. In keeping with the theme, we are pleased to have a young dairy farmer from British Columbia, Julaine Treur. Ms. Treur is an avid blogger and regular contributor to the Farmers Voice blog. In addition, we will be presenting the fourth annual Dairy Farm Sustainability Award which highlights on-farm excellence. During the meeting, we will also be highlighting our involvement in a new initiative called Fuelling Women Champions, and are thrilled to have Jennifer Jones, Olympic Gold Medalist in curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics, as a speaker. As you know, partnerships are of utmost importance in our efforts to support the dairy industry and we will have the pleasure to welcome the CEO of Tim Horton s as well as the CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation with whom we have special connections. Of course, there is always plenty of opportunity for everyone to socialize and enjoy the friendliness and hospitality of my home province, British Columbia. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the British Columbia Dairy Association, as well as all of the sponsors, for helping to make this meeting a success. Welcome to Vancouver! Wally Smith President, Dairy Farmers of Canada 2

It is with great pride that Dairy Farmers of Canada is holding its 2015 Annual General Meeting in Vancouver, BC. This year is all about partnerships and relationship building, and I am looking forward to connecting with all of you during the next few days. As you will see from the agenda, there is a good balance of formal discussions and social activities, both of which will allow us the opportunity to exchange on initiatives and projects that concern all of us. Throughout the meetings, we will be highlighting some special partnerships that have been formed in 2014-2015. These partnerships contribute to building a credible, modern and responsible dairy industry and, ultimately, benefit dairy farmers from coast-to-coast. I would invite you to engage with our guest speakers and ask them questions to learn more about what they do and why being associated with dairy is important to them. As a strong believer in supporting the next generation, I am also enthusiastically looking forward to having young farmers speak during the conference on what motivates them and the reasons why they are actively engaged in the conversation. As well, athlete Jennifer Jones will highlight the positive impacts that Canadian dairy farmers will have on the advancement of women in sports as a result of their involvement in the Fuelling Women Champions initiative. We all know there are many challenges ahead, but I am confident that together, through concerted actions and joint efforts, we will ensure a prosperous and stable future for the Canadian dairy industry. I wish you all a very successful conference and look forward to meeting you! Caroline Emond Executive Director, Dairy Farmers of Canada 3

WELCOME FROM BC DAIRY ASSOCIATION On behalf of all dairy producers in British Columbia, I would like to welcome you to the Dairy Farmers of Canada Annual General Meeting. This annual event is an opportunity for dairy farmers from across Canada to come together to celebrate our industry and challenge one another on how we can make our industry even stronger. We are excited to welcome all industry representatives and guests to this event, and hope that everyone will enjoy Vancouver! The planning committee has worked hard to give everyone the chance to experience and take in the amazing sights of our city and surrounding areas. Please take advantage of the organized tours and experience beautiful British Columbia, especially on Monday s tour, when we visit three BC farms in the Fraser Valley. Our farmers are excited to meet and host you. We have encouraged all provinces to invite young producers to this event. BC will be well represented by its young producers, as their involvement can and will help shape the future of our industry. We are pleased to be this year s host province and hope you will enjoy the sights, sounds and setting of our provinces dairy industry. Dave Taylor Chairperson BC Dairy Association 4
