INFOSHEET A Sustainable break From 07/08 to 22/08/18 WHO ARE WE? Solidarités Jeunesses (SJ) is an association from a movement of non formal education which places in its core values solidarity, voluntary commitment and a strong political will. Our choices and our actions are influenced by our vision of the society, in which the progress is social, where the respect of human being and the environment is a fundamental and shared value, where freedom to choose, to dream and to resist is innate or fostered. Our activities is organised for all, do not matter about gender, social and cultural background, nationalities. SJ, since its creation, participates concretely to Peace construction, fostering intercultural meeting here in France and abroad. SJ works through participative pedagogy which encourages initiatives, commitment valuation and gathers forces and intelligences from all, volunteers, employees, etc. Solidarités Jeunesses is composed by one National Secretary based in Paris, seven Regional Delegations, and one partner association. Our delegations host time to time or all year long time volunteers, from France and from all around the world. Furthermore, those delegations and partners monitor and host also youngsters with fewer opportunities, as part of inclusion and solidarity actions. All those friendly delegations and partners are situated in singular and original sites (castle, former camp-site, isolated villages in the heart of mountains, former factory, etc.). Those places have been all renovated thanks to volunteers and people involved on those projects. People live, meet and enjoy together there. Do you know it? The first workcamps were organised after the First World War, in Verdun region, in France. Several citizens-volunteers, from former opposed countries, decided to join their forces and wills in order to work together on Peace construction in the interest of the communities. ASSOCIATION CENTRE DE BEAUMOTTE The Center of Beaumotte is an association of youth and popular education created in 1979. Our association works to support and to teach youngsters, specially those with less opportunities. By proposing a place of exchange and sharing where each one can take the time to rebuilt himself, and They can learn how to assume responsibility of themselves. Our center is an alternative place based on co-education (intercultural, intergenerational, of sex and beliefs) hence, on the collective life and the responsibilisation of the people in charge of welcoming. For 35 years, we have set up international projects convinced of the wealth these bring. VOLUNTEERING Volunteering is a exchange, a meeting, between one person who wishes to offer his/her time, energy, views to a general interest project. It is also an intercultural ground of learning (apprenticeship), experiments and personal construction. At SJ, volunteering does not mean

humanitarian action because we do not deal with emergency. Voluntary service exists almost everywhere around the world and it is a commitment which can be really different regarding countries, cultures, fields, etc. It gathers different types of persons and entities, local associations, men, women, local authorities and private entities. Volunteering is above all a personal commitment, which invites you to a deep discovery. SJ International workcamps gather volunteers from different countries and backgrounds, who participate, together, to the realisation of a useful project for the local community. It can last from one to three weeks. Those workcamps are based on collective life and collective work. The aim is to bring rural and urban areas together, to mix locals with strangers and to permit their encounter. Workcamp projects are here to facilitate group dynamism and discovery. Languages are mainly English and French. Volunteers organise their daily life by themselves (budget, schedule, work and also cleaning). Bring with you recipes, music and everything that could show to the others about your country and what you like. PROJECT At the beginning, we will do many team building activities to get to know and understand each other better. After: Mornings will be dedicated to manual activities : During 4 hours, youngsters will be divided and placed on several workshops : gardening, cooking, bread making Participants will create their own resources for the stay. During afternoons, they will participate to : Intercultural exchanges workshops, debates Free time based on local discoveries and getting to know each other Workshops on the reuse of clothing, on building board games Additional activities : Canoeing, tree top climbing, Concert Discover the region Activities proposed by the participants International dinner where our partners and the local community will be invited. Enjoying the collective life We don't ask any qualification to be able to participate but motivation! You will decide on the activities within the group and plan them together with the workcamp leaders. If you feel like it you can propose activites such as games, energizers or artistic workshops to the group. Please let us know in advance if you need any specific material so that we can make sure to have what you need before your arrival. Our pedagogy is a popular and not-formal education: young people get the chance to create, act and live together and each participant will be responsible for the daily life of the group. We work as much as possible with creative and playful methods.

LEISURE ACTIVITES Solidarités Jeunesses considers workcamps as an experimentation of collective lifestyle. That is why volunteers will organise their free time and leisure activities in a way that fits to the group and enhances its team spirit, always regarding budget, time and available leisures. Those possibilities can be really diversified (regional tourism, local events, activities with the locals, green tourism, etc.). It is the responsibility of all volunteers to organise their free time and to participate to the good dynamism of the group/workcamp. GROUP LIFE The group will consist of 24 volunteers from four different countries (Estonia, Greece, Germany, Italy and France). The participants are between 15 and 17 years old. There will be three camp leaders who will take care of the volunteers, organise activities and make sure to create a good atmosphere within the group. They will support the daily life such as managing the budget and the schedules, organising activities outside of the workcamp, etc. The group is responsible for cooking and cleaning so do not forget to bring your traditional recipes! Which language will be used depends on the group and the capacities of each volunteer, but English and French are the common languages on such projects. BEWARE ABOUT Even if the workcamp takes place in a beautiful region, this is not a tourist journey! If you wish to visit places and cities nearby or travel through France, you must do it before or after the project. Feel free to stay 1 or 2 days longer in France to explore it, but during the project you will stay with all the volunteers and inhabitants to enjoy local leisure activities and live an intercultural experience. ACCOMMODATION Volunteers will stay in large tent, on camping beds (girls and boys will be separated). The kitchen is located inside the house of the association. Volunteers need to bring a good sleeping bag, rain clothes (we never know), and, of course, a lot of motivation! You will participate to the collective life: kitchen, cleaning, shopping, organisation of activities WE HAVE A WASHING MACHINE. WE HAVE WIFI BUT IT S LIMITED TO 1H30 PER DAY. DO NOT FORGET TO BRING a sleeping bag (and a pillow if you wish) rain clothes and warm clothes Sun cream, laundry detergent Instruments, games, recipes, pictures, postcards from your region A swimming suit Your student card if you have one

Volunteers will have the possibility to put their valuable items in a safe place to secure it. Nevertheless, if there is no necessity to bring those items with you, we invite to leave them at home. Each volunteer is responsible for its personal belongings. INSURANCE Solidarités Jeunesses takes an insurance regarding Civil responsibility and Accident during the workcamp but the health insurance is at your charge. Thus, if you don t have one, we invite you to contract a complementary insurance. French participants must bring with them their Social Security number. For EU residents, you should ask for the European social insurance card and bring it with you. At last, for non-eu residents, bring with you a document to confirm that you have a social security cover. Don't forget to be updated regarding vaccination. You will also need to provide a parental authorization and jealth record. Please scan the documents to workcamp.in@solidaritesjeunesses.org and bring the original documents with you to the project.
