Attendance: 40 members were in attendance. All board members were present except Bill Newlin and Vince Gregoire. Secretary s Report: The March meeting minutes were read by Nanette Chuck and approved by Chris Rich and seconded by Pete Rich. Treasurer s Report: The Treasurer s report was read by Ted Shimkowski and approved by Fran Faraudo and seconded by Joe Konvalinka. Tour Report: Dick Winterhalder is still working on a tour of the Cooly Ranch. George Jones requested manifold cooker recipes so a tour could be planned using them. Fees for the overnighter are due and must be paid in advance. If you are late you will not be able to go. Cutoff date is June 23, 2014. Friendship tour will be in October this year and put on by the Model A club. Fran Faraudo reminded everyone that the barn sale will be on May 17 & 18. Donations are needed to get enough stuff to make it worthwhile. Please drop off your stuff in front of the barn if they are not home. The club has done really well with this sale in the past. Ginny will send out a flyer prior to the sale. Everything from soup to nuts will be accepted. Pancake breakfast to be held at the Nelsons on Saturday. There will be a short tour. Sunshine Report: Nothing to report. Librarian Report: Pete reported that Pat O Halloran took the complete library and put all of the VHS tapes onto DVD s and onto a flash drive. Special Events: Vince Gregoire and Steve Vining are working on the Apple Valley Convalescent Hospital tour being planned. More information will be forthcoming. Ginny Rich read a note from the Living Room thanking REMTC for the donation. New Business: George Jones asked if our club newsletter could include for sale items from other clubs. Steve Vining suggested that a link to these clubs could be included in our website. Ginny Rich reported that Freddy Temps, who is a local member, has been inducted into the Model T Ford Club of America Speedster Racer Hall of Fame in Lincoln, Nebraska. Chris Rich reported that key concerns found at the Safety Inspection included wishbone and front axle bolts not tight enough to prevent them coming off. Also tires not properly inflated. Four cars had gasoline dripping, and a few had rear wheels that needed to be tightened. Thanks again to the Safety Check crew, Chris, Ted and Pete, for all your hard work. Ginny has flyers for the Antique Nationals drag race in Fontana and the Orange County Model T Club pre-war Parts Exchange and Car Show both are in July. Steve Nelson showed the club some stop lights he found at the Bakersfield Swap Meet that could be used for turn signals or brake lights. Nelson s Pancake Breakfast April 5th was the date this year for the Nelson s annual Pancake Breakfast and Tour. We all look forward to enjoying Steve and Jeanne s wonderful hospitality. It was a big turnout this year with some Model T s making their first appearance on tour. Mike and Jean Chirhart arrived in their beautiful 1912 C-Cab Delivery. Impeccable comes to mind when looking for a descriptive word. There is a back story about the tribute to Mike s dad and maybe we can feature an article on Mike s journey with the 1912 Model T. John and Patty Girman arrived in their 1923 Touring for their first outing with a new engine. I think we had around 18 Model T s. Steve and Jean had plenty of food for the event. After filling up with ham, sausage, pancakes, juice, coffee and other breakfast foods, we lined up for a short tour to New Metal Kustoms restoration shop in Cotati. The owner, Paul Shaughnessy and his co-worker, Marcus Owens had breakfast with us. We had no idea what kind of shop we would see. We pulled up to the shop and walked inside, WOW! The first thing we noticed was a display of wooden bucks, which were the original forms for many vintage car s sheet metal including Duesenberg front fenders. Marcus told us that the bucks, another for wooden forms, (see photos), were acquired from California Metal Shaping in So Cal. In order to appreciate the professionalism of these young craftsman, you would have to visit the shop, Everywhere you looked, was immuculate and the shaping machines were awesome. (ladies term) We spent more time than anticipated while Marcus and Paul took us on a tour and explained and answered questions about the business. The Ferrari in the front of the shop was a testiment to the range of automobiles that are brought to their shop. They specialize in customizing or duplicating original metal. We all came away knowing more about these young entrepeneurs and appreciating how knowlegable they were and how willing to share their time and knowledge with us. Truly a interesting and fun tour. Steve and Jeanne have been around the old car hobby for a long time and we appreciate their sharing the people they meet with the Club. Thanks Steve and Jeanne for another wonderful Pancake Breakfast. A very special thanks to Richard DeCarli for sharing his photographs with REMTC. Your editor took over a hundred photos without a card in her camera. So I called Richard and he immediately shared his photos. 8
