test methods and accreditation ALL SEALSKINZ DUTY PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN INDEPENDENTLY TESTED BY SATRA. THEY'RE DESIGNED TO MINIMISE THE RISK OF/PROVIDE PROTECTION AGAINST GENERAL MECHANICAL RISKS. HOWEVER, ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT NO ITEM OF PPE CAN PROVIDE FULL PROTECTION AND CARE MUST ALWAYS BE TAKEN WHILE CARRYING OUT THE RISK-RELATED ACTIVITY. CE MARKING It is mandatory that all products sold as Personal Protective Equipment in the EU are CE marked. To obtain a CE mark the PPE supplier must obtain an EC type examination certificate from a Notified Body. Notified Bodies are certified independent test houses that undertake a detailed examination of the product, the supply chain and any test results which verify the protective properties of the product. All EC type examination certificates for SealSkinz products have been issued by SATRA after making a detailed review of technical information and testing for each product. GLOVE STANDARDS There are a number of standards that are used to test the protective properties of gloves. SealSkinz gloves are tested to the following standards. EN420:2003 Protective gloves General requirements and test methods EN388:2003 Protective gloves against Mechanical Risks (abrasion, blade cut, tear and puncture) EN407:2004 Protective gloves against Thermal Risks (heat and/or fire) ENISO13997:1999 Protective clothing Mechanical Properties Determination of resistance to cutting by sharp objects EN374-2:2003 Protective gloves against Chemicals and Micro-orgnisms Part 2: Determination of resistance to penetration. All gloves sold as PPE have to meet the requirements of EN420 which covers items such as glove sizing, innocuousness, dexterity, comfort and efficiency. Additional testing is then carried out based on the type of risk that any specific glove is trying to protect against. So for example if the glove is intended to protect the wearer against risks from sharp cutting objects then it will be tested against EN388. STANDARDS Conventional knitted socks are not typically thought of as Personal Protective Equipment. However SealSkinz socks are unique and clearly do have protective properties. Working with SATRA we have therefore gone to great lengths to CE mark our products so that they can be specified as Personal Protective Equipment under the PPE regulations. Whilst there are no formal EN standards relating to the protective properties of socks, the test methods described for gloves are both applicable and readily adaptable. SATRA have therefore undertaken testing to confirm the protective properties of SealSkinz socks using these methods. Note: it is recommended that SealSkinz socks are not used under wetsuit boots the unique construction may insulate the foot from the warm water layer between the skin and the neoprene required for the function of the wetsuit. STORAGE AND TRANSPORT When not in use, store the product in a well ventilated area away from extremes of temperature. If the product is wet, allow it to dry fully before placing into storage. INSPECTION BEFORE AND AFTER USE If the product becomes damaged it will NOT provide the optimum protection and must be discarded and replaced. Never use a damaged product. If in doubt consult the manufacturer. WASHING & CARE INSTRUCTIONS Every SealSkinz product has care instructions on the packaging and attached to the product labels. SealSkinz DUTY socks and gloves can be machine washed at 40ºC or below, hats at 30ºC or below. They can be either drip or tumble dried on a cool setting. It is advised that you do not dry on a radiator or other direct heat source.
