Erie County Sheriffs Office Media Release Summary CL# 14-050406 Dates: 7/12/2014 to 7/18/2014 Pages: 5 The Erie County Sheriff s Office responded to 218 calls the week of this report. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island. Date Street Type Narrative 7/12 East River Rd. Loud Music a boat that was docked at Turner s Port of Call during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the boat in question and advised the occupants. 7/12 Baseline Rd. Accident Hit & Run The complainant states that a vehicle struck a mailbox and fled the scene. Deputies located the vehicle by the description given and the driver stated he would make restitution for the mailbox to the owner s satisfaction. 7/12 Whitehaven Rd. Reckless Operation The complainant states that a vehicle was doing donuts in the parking lot of the Byblos Niagara Resort & Spa. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given. 7/12 West Park Dr. Animal Injury The complainant states that her dog s foot was stuck in a metal stake used for attaching the leash to. Deputies were able to free the dog using bolt cutters, and the owner then took the animal to the SPCA for treatment. 7/12 Grand Island Blvd. Larceny The complainant states that while he and his family were inside Martin s Fantasy Island, an unknown person(s) broke into his vehicle and stole various items from inside. Suspicious Incident 7/14 Grand Island Blvd. Larceny Nicholas Fachko of Grand Island for Menacing 2 nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4 th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Reckless Endangerment 2 nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Harassment 2 nd Degree (Violation) and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child 2 nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor). Fachko was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court. The complainant states that an intoxicated male subject was stumbling around in the parking lot of Tops during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the subject and advised him. The subject left without incident. Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a problem with the phone lines. an unknown person(s) damaged the windshield wiper blade on her vehicle. an unknown person(s) damaged the windshield wiper blade on his vehicle. an unknown person(s) threw a brick through the rear window of his vehicle. The complainant states that sometime during recent hours an unknown person(s) stole a gym bag from his unlocked vehicle. a nearby residence during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the subjects. Employees of a business state that a vehicle was parked in the lot and did not belong there. Deputies were unable to make contact with the owner. The complainant states that several subjects were going door to door and offering services to do some work. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects. The complainant states she found some rolled up papers with white powder on them and wanted to turn the property over to Patrol. Employees of Tops state that a male subject stole various items from inside the store and left in a vehicle prior to Patrols arrival. Deputies located the vehicle and the driver by the license plate number that employees obtained. Their investigation led to the arrest of 27 y/o Myles Passanese of Grand Island for Petit Larceny (Class A Misdemeanor) and Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration (Misdemeanor) after a DMV check showed his vehicle registration was currently suspended. Passanese was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island

The complainant states that he was bitten by a dog from his apartment complex. The Dog Control Officer was Deputies responded to a 911 hang up call at Byblos Niagara Resort & Spa. Deputies spoke to the occupants of the hotel room the call originated from and determined the call to be a misdial. Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked behind a closed business during the early morning hours. Deputies located the occupants nearby and determined the subjects were tending to bee hives behind the property. an unknown person(s) stole an unsecure bicycle from his property. The complainant states that he found a dismantled safe in the ditch on the side of the roadway. Deputies took custody of the safe. Investigation Ongoing. The complainant states that a neighbor in his apartment complex has been slamming his door very loudly for the last several months. Deputies located the subject and advised him. Deputies conducted a background check of a person who applied for a pistol permit. The complainant states that a male subject was parked in Veterans Park and appeared to be watching kids. Deputies located the subject who stated he was making phone calls and didn t want to drive while talking on the phone. Deputies responded to a report of a 2 car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported. The complainant states that he could hear several voices coming from the nearby cemetery during the late hours of the night. Deputies located several youths and notified their parents who arrived on location to pick up the children. Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at a residence and upon arrival located an open door to the house. Deputies checked the residence and found no persons inside. The alarm was determined to be an oversight. Following a traffic stop, Deputies arrested 25 y/o William Rowe of Grand Island for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7 th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Possessing of a Controlled Substance outside of the original container (Violation), and a traffic infraction. Rowe was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. Deputies conducted a background check of a person who applied for a pistol permit. The complainant states that he observed a male subject enter his neighbor s residence by climbing in a window. Deputies located the subject inside the residence and

determined he was the son of the homeowner. 7/16 Love Rd. Suspicious Incident The complainant states that 2 youths climbed onto the Kaegabine Elementary School roof. Deputies located the subjects and determined they needed to retrieve a bag that was thrown up on the roof. 7/16 Enola Rd. Open Door The complainant states that his neighbor s door was open and it did not appear they were home. Deputies checked the residence and found no persons inside. The door was determined to be an oversight. 7/16 Ransom Rd. Suspicious Incident The complainant states that he saw a group of people walking down the road and heard a baby crying during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the subjects and determined it was just a family walking to their residence. 7/17 East Park Rd. Animal Complaint The complainant states that a cat was stuck on a low hanging power line. SPCA and National Grid were 7/17 Bedell Rd. Animal Loose The complainant states that a neighbor s dog was running loose. The Dog Control Officer was 7/17 Grand Island Blvd. Traffic Arrest Following a traffic stop, Deputies arrested 43 y/o Nissa Thomas-Armstrong of Grand Island for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a suspended Registration (Misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a DMV check showed her registration was currently suspended. Thomas-Armstrong was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. 7/17 Alvin Rd. Traffic Arrest Following a traffic stop, Deputies arrested 23 y/o Shawna Knight of Grand Island for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a suspended Registration (Misdemeanor) after a DMV check showed her registration was currently suspended. Knight was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. 7/17 Love Rd. Shots Fired The complainant states that he heard several gun shots somewhere in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to hear any shots. 7/17 East River Rd. Loud Music Turner s Port of Call during the evening hours. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded. 7/18 Carter Dr. Youth Activity The complainant states that 5 or 6 kids were walking down the street and were doing something. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths. 7/18 Baseline Rd. Traffic Arrest Following a traffic stop, Deputies arrested 45 y/o Cindy Meer of Grand Island for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a suspended Registration (Misdemeanor) and another traffic infraction after a DMV check showed her registration was currently suspended. Meer was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court. 7/18 West River Rd. Animal Complaint The complainant states that while she was walking her dog she was nearly attacked by 2 other dogs that were running loose in the area. The Dog Control Officer was 7/18 Grand Island Blvd. Suspicious Person The complainant states that a male subject was

stumbling down the roadway and appeared to be intoxicated. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject by the description given. Deputies responded to 14 Burglary False alarm calls and 4 Fire Alarms during the dates of this report.
