Establishment of the Ecological Network in Serbia As a first step towards establishment of the ecological network, as well as the integration of the economic and environmental policies, several important international projects have been started and are in progress in Serbia

Objectives Establish Ecological Network in Serbia Establish formal collaboration with all border countries Development of Serbian Green Belt along boundary route towards Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro and Romania Establish mechanisms of future collaboration between stakeholders and international, national, regional and local level in order to preserve and protect habitats and species of international and national importance, protected areas and overall sustainable development of Ecological Network Establish Establish criteria and indicators for identification of the Ecological Network in Serbia, monitoring and reporting

Objectives Improve the system of planning, management and ownership over natural resources in protected areas and forest areas as a whole from the aspect of forests biodiversity conservation Prepare new guidelines and/or methodology for the development of plans and programmes of protected areas management, spatial planning and development and natural resources management Give incentives to multidisciplinary research in order to develop new methodologies to preserve, renew and develop biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources Establishment of mechanisms of public participation in the project, informing and mass media participation

Expected results Completed study on status of Ecological network in Serbia within regional cooperation with neighboring countries Formed databases with clear maps in GIS Harmonized procedure of GIS introduction into management of protected areas Established coordination system in respect to all relevant stakeholders in project activities Harmonization of implementation process of CBD, Convention on Wetlands, PEBLDS, Ramsar Convention, Bern Convention, CITES, Carpathian Convention and Convention on Migratory Species within process of establishment and functioning of Ecological Network in Serbia Nomination of protected areas at national level into status of Transboundary Reserves of Biosphere Established system of sustainable development and protection of the ecological network of Serbia as part of the Pan-European Ecological Network
