If you re out and about with someone who relies on your help because of their disability or illness, it s worth considering the many venues and travel companies which offer free or concessionary rates for carers. All sorts of places offer concessions but they don t always advertise them. It s best to phone before your visit to check on individual admissions policies and to explain the disability or illness of the person you are accompanying. You may be asked for proof of their condition. Many places provide free wheelchair or motorised scooter loan for disabled visitors - it s usually necessary to book in advance. Leisure Cinema The UK Cinema Association provides a card which can be used to verify that the holder is entitled to one free ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema. It is not necessary to be accompanied by the same person on each visit. The card holder must be over 8 years of age. Applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria: a. be in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment or Armed Forces Independence Payment b. be a registered visually impaired person There is a 6.00 annual administration charge.
