UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS CANADA AND NEW ENGLAND FALL FOLIAGE 2019 Your Canada and New England Fall Foliage adventure will begin with two nights in Montreal; the embarkation point of your boutique cruise journey. Set on an island in the St. Lawrence River, Montreal is Quebec s 2nd largest city. It has everything you could want beauty, history, French culture, art, a creative vibe. Join your fellow alums on a private, University of Redlands only tour of this city and its surroundings. Here you will get our first taste of fall foliage, as well as getting to know your fellow alums at our opening banquet. The next morning you will have time to explore the city on your own, before being transported to the beautiful Oceania Riviera boutique cruise ship. You will set sail up the St. Lawrence River and on to Quebec City, a sight to behold. From there we will journey onward to the Atlantic where you will visit iconic cities and beautiful quaint villages that larger ships simply cannot access. You will visit 11 ports in 11 days on this port intensive itinerary, so you see and experience much more than an average cruise. PRE-CRUISE A REDLANDS-ONLY AFFAIR IN DAY 1: OCTOBE R 6 TH, 2019 You can arrive any time on the 6 th to start your adventure. Your transfers have been arranged to take you from the airport, to our city center hotel, the Intercontinental Montreal. The day will be independent so that you can enjoy the city at your leisure. The cobblestone streets of Old Montreal will make you feel you have been transported to a European village. Not only charming, it is also home to the impressive Notre Dame Basilica. High above the city you ll find Mont Royal Park, the jewel of Montreal s city parks. Cool, green, serene, it is a respite from the bustle of the city.
You don t have to be a garden lover to appreciate the scope and beauty of the Montreal Botanical Garden. Its 160 acres showcase more than 20,000 species of plants along with themed-gardens and greenhouses. You will take in some of the sights of the city, before heading out into the countryside in search of natural beauty. Only an hour outside of Montreal you'll begin to see why so many people travel here for some down time away from the city. Saint Sauveur is known for its beautiful lakes, mountains, and a multitude of festivals. Saint Adolphe, which was founded in 1878, is a beautiful town that has endless open-air activities and beaches, and is set on Lake Saint-Joseph, the largest lake in the area. Saint Agathe is a four-season destination and has something to offer no matter when you stop in for a visit. Saint Jovite is a lively town with an abundance of boutiques, restaurants, and outdoor activities. Your last stop of the day is Mont-Tremblant, which is the highest peak in the Laurentians and boasts incredible views. In the evening you are invited to an opening banquet, where you will get to know your fellow travelers and toast to an incredible journey to come. CRUISE THE SPLENDORS OF FALL FOLIAGE WITH OCEANIA DAY 4: OCTOBE R 9 TH, 2019 QUEBEC CITY, QUE BEC Surrounded by several miles of granite walls dating back hundreds of years, Quebec City s fabulous Old Town exudes European character, exemplified in the iconic Château Frontenac. Another architectural gem is the fascinating Musée de la Civilisation, a treasure trove of items recreating the French-speaking city s early days. DAY 5: OCTOBE R 10 TH, 2019 CRU ISING GU LF OF ST LAW RENCE This relaxing day at sea will be supplemented with unique Redlands educational components. DAY 6: OCTOBE R 11 TH, 2019 CHA RLOTTETOWN, P RINCE EDWARD ISLA ND Trace the birth of Canada where it happened in 1864 on the waterfront in what is now Founder s Hall. The past also comes alive along historic Great George Street. Don t miss the Neo-Gothic St. Dunstan s Cathedral, or the Confederation Centre of the Arts to see the original manuscript of the beloved Anne of Green Gables, which was set on Prince Edward Island.
DAY 7: OCTOBE R 12 TH, 2019 SYD NEY, N OVA SC OTIA Historic Sydney boasts several landmarks from the late 1700s, such as the colonial Cossit House and the Jost House, which features an unusual beehive bake-oven. St. Patrick s, the city s oldest Catholic church, doubles as a fascinating museum. DAY 8: OCTOBE R 13 TH, 2019 HA LIFAX, N OV A SC OTIA Founded by the British in 1749, Halifax still has a British military air about it. Every day at noon, a ceremonial gun is fired at the Halifax Citadel, a star-shaped fortress where the guides wear military uniforms. The exhibits have a more seafaring slant at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and include the nearly 100-year-old Acadia. DAY 9: OCTOBE R 14 TH, 2019 ST JOHN BAY, NEW BRU NSW IC K Explore Canada's oldest continuing museum, the New Brunswick, where displays include the skeletal remains of a rare North Atlantic right whale. Saint John is also known for the bizarre Reversing Falls, a daily tidal phenomenon so severe it reverses the flow of the Saint John River. Birders will enjoy serene Irving Nature Park. DAY 10: OCTOBE R 15 TH, 2019 PORTLAND, MA INE Take in the best views of this vibrant city from the Portland Observatory, America's only remaining historic maritime signal tower. The Portland Museum of Art, located in the thriving Arts District, boasts the works of Picasso, Monet, Renoir and many other masters. Have a picnic or just relax in the serene Eastern Promenade Park, with its majestic slopes extending down to the beautiful Casco Bay. DAY 11: OCTOBE R 16 TH, 2019 BA R HARBOR, MA INE Established in the 19th century as New England's premier summer resort city, Bar Harbor was originally called Eden. It's still a seaside paradise, especially for lovers of the outdoors. Hike through Acadia National Park, behold the sweeping vistas from Cadillac Mountain, and watch for migrating humpback whales. The Wabanaki Indian exhibits in the Abbe Museum are also fascinating. DAY 12: OCTOBE R 17 TH, 2019 BOSTON, MA SSAC HUSE TTS Boston's enormous role during the American Revolution is inescapable, and it's easy to trace by following the Freedom Trail, which links more than a dozen historic sites throughout town from the Paul Revere House to the Old North Church. But don't forgo exploring Boston's appealing modern side. For a 360-degree view of the city, head for the skywalk observatory on the 50th floor of the Prudential Tower. For art, browse the Museum of Fine Arts, which includes works from Van Gogh to Egyptian sculpture. If your interests lie in the natural world, wander through the remarkable New England Aquarium or Franklin Zoo. DAY 13: OCTOBE R 18 TH, 2019 NEWPORT, RH ODE ISLA ND Famous for its Gilded Age mansions, many of which are open for tours, such as the Vanderbilt's opulent Marble House, Newport remains a charming, well-heeled resort city. For a different view of the mansions, take the scenic Cliff Walk. The rocky shoreline is also dotted with lighthouses, including the granite Castle Hill.
DAY 14: OCTOBE R 19 TH, 2019 NEW Y ORK, NEW Y ORK The Big Apple. The City That Never Sleeps. Call it what you may, New York reigns as one of the world's most dynamic cities. But where to begin? The sacred soil of Ground Zero or stunning Central Park? The Guggenheim or the American Museum of Natural History? Should you take in a Broadway show or simply enjoy the nonstop show of people who parade through the streets? The possibilities are endless in the five boroughs of New York City, so get out and enjoy.
