Please read through the following documentation carefully and do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any queries: Email: info@209events.com Tel: 01252 373797 Website: www.209events.com Your 2:09 Events Representative Steven Seaton will be staying at the Hotel New Otani for the duration of your trip. Steven is one of the directors at 2:09 Events and was for many years the editor of Runner s World. Having completed in excess of 100 marathons around the world, Steven is an experienced runner and traveller. Steven looked after our group at last year s Tokyo Marathon and, having lived in the city for three years in his younger days, also has a good working knowledge of Tokyo and the Japanese language, although he admits both are a little rusty. Meet and Greets Steven is arriving the day before our main group and will be at Narita Airport to meet the flight arriving on Thursday 23rd. He will collect your race jackets in advance and you should see him in the hotel lobby of the Garden Tower at the following times to collect your jacket, have a chat or ask questions. Thursday 23 rd 6:00pm - 7:00pm Friday 24 th 10:00am 11:00am Saturday 25 th 10:00am 11:00am Steven will also be leading a short acclimatisation run to the Imperial Palace on Friday 24 th between 7:30am 8:30am. Meet him in the Garden Tower reception at 7:30am if you d like to join him. If you need to contact him at other times, you can do so through the reception desk or e-mail, text or call him at: Tel: 07834 431000 Email: steven@209events.com Your Hotel A room has been booked for you at the Hotel New Otani Garden Tower 4-1 Kioi-cho, Chiyoda-ku Tokyo 102-8578 Japan Surrounded by a beautiful 400-year old Japanese garden, the New Otani Tokyo Hotel is situated in central Tokyo and offers comfortable accommodation less than a 10-minute walk from 5 subway lines. The nearest subway station is Akasaka Mitsuke which is to the south east of the hotel on the same side as the reception to the Garden Tower. The hotel is also less than a mile from the gardens of the Imperial Palace and Hibiya Park, where the marathon finishes. Rooms include a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a minibar. Some have views of the hotel's Japanese garden or the Tokyo skyline. Guests can experience Japanese culture at the tea ceremony room. Relaxation options include a sauna and spa with massage service. The New Otani is a very large hotel complex with two receptions and multiple entry and exit points and it may take you some time to orientate yourself. Check in is 4:00pm. To check in you should go to the reception desk of the Garden Tower, which is on the east side of the hotel, rather than the main reception which is on the west side. Your booking is on a bed and breakfast basis and you will be given breakfast tokens when you check in, including an early breakfast (5:30am) on the day of the marathon. The hotel has a number of different restaurants you can try for breakfast offering a variety of western and Japanese food. There are also a variety of shops, restaurants and supermarkets within 10 minutes walk from the hotel in Akasaka.

Narita is one of Tokyo s main airports but is to the east of Tokyo approximately 50 miles from the city itself. Steven will already be in Tokyo and will meet you at the international arrivals area of Narita Airport. He will be carrying a 2:09 Events sign. When everyone has cleared customs, which may take some time, a private bus will transfer you to the Tokyo Big Sight Marathon Expo to pick up your race numbers and race packs. After you have completed race registration, the bus will transfer you to the New Otani Hotel. Arrivals outside main group Wednesday 22nd Narita Airport Narita Airport Terminal 2 - Depart Narita Airport Terminal 1 South Wing - Depart Narita Airport Terminal 1 North Wing - Depart Hotel New Otani Arrive Flights and airport transfers to Hotel New Otani - Narita Airport Own flights On arrival at Narita Airport, you will need to arrange your own transfer to the hotel. Wednesday 22nd Flights and airport transfers to Hotel New Otani - Haneda Aiport Haneda Airport Own flights from Haneda Airport For those who have arranged your own flights, on arrival at Haneda, you will need to arrange your own transfer to the hotel. This can be done in three ways, but again by far the easiest is by the Airport Limousine Bus service which will take you directly to the Hotel New Otani. However, scheduled buses are less frequent than at Narita so, depending on when you arrive, you may need to consider one of the other 2 options. Please also be aware that flights from the UK to Haneda generally arrive early in the morning but check in to the New Otani is from 2:00pm, so you may have a delay before you can access your room. 1. Airport Limousine Bus Service The Limousine Bus Service takes between 40-65 minutes depending on traffic. You should first purchase a ticket from the Bus Ticketing Counter on the 2 nd floor or the Bus Ticket Machine in the ground floor for Akasaka Area which will cost about JPY1,130. Friday 24th 7:30am Meet Steven in the lobby for a gentle acclimatisation run around part of the Imperial Palace. The run will take approximately 40-45 minutes and is entirely optional. Sunday 28th Race Day Meet in the hotel lobby at 6:30am to be picked up by the coach and taken to the race starting area arriving around 7:15am. Breakfast will be served from 5:30am so there will be enough time for you to have something to eat before you get on the coach. The buses to the start leave from below the main reception at the New Otani, this is approximately 5 minutes walk from the Tower Hotel reception. Steven will be in the reception area to guide any of you who are unsure of where to go. Please ensure you have your bus sticker which will be given to you by Steven Start Area Our experiences of running the Tokyo Marathon in 2016 were that the start area was exceptionally well organised with plenty of signs and marshals directing runners. The baggage trucks were clearly labelled and waiting time was minimal. When you arrive you will make your way to your assigned gate number. You will find this on your race number. The map on the following page, indicates where the different gate numbers are - everything will be well signed and there will be lots of marshals directing you to the right place. Once inside the start village, you will be directed to your assigned block ready for the start. The blocks close prior to the start of the race, so make sure you arrive at your starting block area in good time. The temperatures at the start line will be very cold, so make sure you are well wrapped up with extra clothes which can be The Course Distance along the course will be marked with signs every kilometre and at the half way point. After the first 5K, fluid and fuel stations are at 2K or 3K intervals. Sports drink will be available every 5K. The official drink is Pocari Sweat, which is a local Japanese sports drink. It has light innocuous flavour but it is worth buying some in advance from a local convenience store to make sure it agrees with you. Bananas, bread, tomato and sweets are also provided at later stations. Toilet facilities are located at various points along the course. A map of the route can be found on the following page of this participant information guide. The Tokyo Marathon 2017 Runner Handbook will be available in the next couple of weeks on the Tokyo Marathon website for further last minute information Finish and Baggage Area This year the finish of the race has moved to Gyoko Dori, which is in front of the main entrance to the Imperial Palace. As with the start area, the finish and baggage collection is superbly organised and there are plenty of marshals on hand to help you out. The baggage collection at the end of the marathon is colour coded according to your race number and accompanying security wrist band. Your colour code is orange so you will exit the finish at Hibiya Park. This is within easy walking distance of the New Otani Hotel. Since the New Otani is one of the official race hotels there will also be a bus shuttle service that takes you from the finish back to the hotel. The buses will be clearly labelled to make sure you get on the right one. New Otani is in the Akasaka Area The marshals are extremely helpful and will guide you in the right direction.
