Radiology in Venice Post Tour Enchanting Greece & the Amalfi Coast Wind Star April 29 May 6, 2017 Idyllic islands, charming cobbled villages, spectacular scenery, intriguing history. Capture the heart of the Mediterranean in a single voyage.
Day to Day Itinerary Saturday, April 29 th Day 1: Venice - Rome - Embarkation Today we depart the conference hotel by water taxi to the airport of Venice for a short flight to Rome. Upon arrival the representatives of Windstar Cruises will meet us and transfer us by bus to Civitavecchia Cruise Terminal to board the beautiful Wind Star Luxury Yacht. Sunday, April 30 th Day 2: Sorrento, Italy Perched on a terrace on the spectacular Amalfi Coast, Sorrento offers exceptional views whether approaching by sea, or looking out towards the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Follow Corso Italia through town to the medieval Sedile Dominova, where city fathers once gathered to discuss civic policy. Think your eyes are playing tricks on you? The frescoes of columns and a coat of arms created with trompe-l'oeil art make the loggia appear larger than it really is. Sorrento has plenty of history and pleasant piazzas filled with buskers and cafés, but it s hard to come here and not visit nearby Pompeii or Herculaneum, both frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. While hot ashes consumed Pompeii buildings, Herculaneum was covered in mud, preserving its marble floors, mosaics, and paintings for you to feast your eyes upon. Monday, May 1 st Day 3: Lipari, Italy Today is a good day to live the yachting life to its fullest. As our small ship rests alongside the glamorous yachts of the world s elite, you ll fit right in. Take time on shore to explore the beautiful village and enjoy the exclusive access that only a small ship can provide in a port large cruise ships cannot reach. Special excursions allow you to experience the island s dramatic natural beauty, from a hike to the rim of an active volcano to a wonderfully indulgent geothermal mud bath. Tuesday, May 2 nd Day 4: Giardini Laxos, Italy Today you ll discover one of Sicily s jewels, the charming village of Giardini Naxos, nestled in one of the world s most beautiful bays. An excursion to the popular hillside town of Taormina will be a highlight of your voyage from the stunning setting of the iconic Greek Theater to the sparkling beaches along the Ionian Sea. Take a more adventurous tack and explore Mount Etna, Europe s most active volcano.
Complimentary Windstar Private Event: Giardini Naxos: Tastes of Sicily Your exclusive Private Event begins with a trip to Gambino Vineyards, a family-run winery that displays a passion for perfection in all they produce. You will get a wonderful education in what to expect from world-class Sicilian wines made by people who pay exacting attention to indigenous vines, the Etnean terroir, and modern vinification practices. Enjoy the unmistakable perfumes of the volcano vegetation and taste some delicious wine. After your tour your lunch at the winery includes a selection of traditional Sicilian food which, naturally, is paired with excellent wines. Savor your meal. There's no rush when you're enjoying the good life with your Windstar companions. Please note: This Private Event has been scheduled in a way that will allow you to book and experience another shore excursion on the same day and you will not miss anything. Wednesday, May 3 rd Day 5 : Day at Sea Today, enjoy all the services available on board the Wind Star, as we make our way from Italy to Greece. Thursday, May 4 th Day 6 : Gythion, Greece This exuberant little port is the very essence of all that we celebrate as Greek. Cheerful pastel houses are littered among intriguing whitewashed lanes and staircases. Playful sculptures welcome you to the harbor s cheerful shops, coffee houses, and waterfront cafés. This is a perfect place to enjoy a cup of rich coffee or a glass of ouzo while you watch the world go by. To explore further, consider an excursion to the Dyros Caves, often cited as the most beautiful in the world. Friday, May 5 th Day 7: Monemvasia, Greece This beautiful hamlet might have been forgotten by time. Accessible only by a narrow causeway from the mainland, the city is a myriad of streets wide enough only for pedestrians, lined with picturesque shops and ancient, still lived in, houses. It s easy to lose yourself in leisurely wandering here after all, this region, Laconia, gives meaning to our English word laconic. Saturday, May 6 th Day 8: Athens Disembarkation Day This morning we will disembark and transfer to Athens airport for your flight home. For those who wish to stay in Athens for a day or two, there will be an option to do so.
Athens Option on Request: What can you say about one of the oldest cities in the world? Athens covers a dozen hills like warm honey, framed by mountains and the blue Aegean. It was front and center in laying the foundations of western civilization, and is home to some of the most famous ruins and museums in Europe. Head to the excellent New Acropolis Museum to orient yourself before exploring the Parthenon and Temple of Athena. Shop for matia (bright blue charms to ward off the evil eye) on pedestrian-only Ermou Street. If you re here overnight, head to a bouzoukia for some mezethes, music, and ouzo, or attend a performance at the ancient amphitheater on the slopes of the Acropolis just as Athenians did back in 161 A.D CABIN CATEGORIES AVAILABLE: Category AX: Located mid-ship on Deck 2 $3,750.00USD; Cost per person based on double OR Category BX: Located mid-ship on Deck 1 $3,495.00USD; Cost per person based on double Category OS - Owner s Suite: Located on Deck 1 $4,995.00USD; Cost per person based on double ALL CABINS FEATURE: Queen Size Bed with Luxurious Linens Waffle Weave Robe and Slippers Flat Screen TV with DVD player Fully-Stocked Mini Bar/Refrigerator Safe Direct Dial Phone L Occitane Bath Amenities Wi-Fi (internet cards can be purchased at reception) Fresh Flowers Fresh Fruit Granite vanity with magnifying mirror and chair Mirrored closet with ample drawer space Bathroom with granite countertop and shower Hair Dryers and 110/220 outlets
