Activity Descriptions category "A" Crate Stacking High All Aboard Jacob's Ladder Leap Of Faith Gladiator Challenge Requires balance, confidence and trust in your partner as the stack gets higher. Holding your nerve becomes the key to success. Climb a 10m pole and assist your partner onto a small platform at the top before performing a trust excercise! Climb a wooden ladder with the rungs getting progressively further apart. You will need to pull together to reach the top. It takes determination and courage to climb to the 10m platform, but the ultimate challenge is jumping out to reach the trapeze bar in front of you. Test your skills on our vertical aerial assault course set between the trees. Tree Climb Canoeing Kayaking Bell Boating Archery Rifle Shooting Raft Building An excellent opportunity to learn a skill that requires concentration, steady breathing and accuracy. Using our 0.177 air rifles. Consent forms required. Teams build a raft to carry them across the water while developing communication and logistical skills. Backwoods Cooking Learn to cook over an open fire using various traditional methods. Tomahawk Throwing category "b" Climb into the top of the forest canopy on our trees fitted with climbing holds. Great for confidence building. Teamwork and communication will be developed as pairs take contol of their own canoe. Your group will learn basic paddle strokes before testing their ballance and coordination with some team games. Explore the lake or have a race whilst developing team building skills in our catermeran style group canoes. A chance to learn a skill that requires concentration, a steady hand, and a measure of distance and power. A sport where participants throw axes at targets. Requires precision, calculation and skill. Pioneering Bouldering Firelighting Shelter Building Survival Wild Food and Water Rabbit Skinning Team Building Woggleopoly Pond Dipping Low Ropes Nature Trail Geocaching Orienteering A 3 hour session using your imagination and engineering skills to build elaborate structures from wooden spars and ropes. A form of rock climbing without the use of ropes or harnesseswhere participants traverse our indoor climbing wall. Learn to build a fire using various methods including flint and steel and maybe even a bow-drill! Find out how to protect yourself from the elements using only a tarpauline sheet or natural materials. Learn how to summon help and survive in hostile conditions. Learn about edible plants, foraging and water treatment in the wilderness. Discover how to prepare your catch for consumption. Undertake a variety of challenges and problems specifically designed to promote team work and communication skills within the team. A 3 hour or full day Team Building Challenge based around a huge game of Monopoly. An excellent activity for 2 or more groups wishing to really develop their teamwork or leadership skills. Find a whole host of creatures and find out more about them in our pond. Our course is designed to stimulate problem solving, balance and coordination as participants navigate their way around the course. Whatever the time of year there are always things to discover in the woodland around Great Tower. Advanced orienteering with GPS. We have many caches on site as well as lots in the local area. Experience decision making in a team or competition setting whilst learning basic navigation skills.
category "d" - self supervised ultimate adventure Caving Teamwork and communication will be developed as you explore a challenging underground environment, learning about the geological makeup of the Yorkshire Dales. This is often a very wet session. Approx 1hr drive from site. Ghyll Scrambling Mountain Day Sailing Local Fell Walk A full day, high adrenaline activity involving scrambling up a Lakeland river (or Ghyll) and jumping into pools. A very wet activity. Approx 1hr drive from site. Explore the fells of the Lake District taking in some of the most spectacular scenery the country has to offer. Routes for all abilities available. Upwards of 30 minutes drive from site. Learn the basic skills to helm a small dinghy. Supported by our experienced centre instructors in 3 hour sessions. You'll be out exploring Windermere in no time. A half day adventure across our local fells using map reading and decision making skills whilst enjoying the lake district. Climbing category "d" - self supervised Mountain Expedition Test out your skills on our natural crag as you move up the wall reaching for the top in a 3 hour session. ultimate adventure expeditions Truly experience hiking in the Lake District with a two day trek and over night wild camp on the fell side. Canoe Expedition Improve your paddling and explore Windermere over two days of canoeing with an over night camp. self supervised Sustainability/ Conservation Take a look at the environmental impact of humans and how we affect the world around us. See if you can identify the collection of pictures of objects around the site. Whatever the time of year there are always things to discover in the woodland around Great Tower. We have several walking routes of various lengths and abilities, either from here at Great Tower or further afield into Langdale or the Coniston Fells. Undertake som basic problem solving excercises whilst learning about some of our most famous explorers and adventurers. FREE ACTIVITIES! Derek s Day Out Trivia Trail Mountain Bike Routes Campfire Follow the map around the simple course and collect items to help Derek the duck sail across the pond. How much do you know about Great Tower? Test your knowledge and find out some new information with our Trivia Trail. We have a selection of mountain bike routes that you can have a go at for various abilities and starting from Great Tower. Own bikes needed. We have a well stocked campfire circle on site. You are welcome to use it whenever you wish, although we would appreciate it if you would let us know if you are planning to use it so we can let others know. Most groups are happy for others to join in with them. During busy periods (often school holidays) we will run a communal campfire. Times will be advertised in Reception.
permits and badge courses We can deliver a variety of Scout Activity Permits including rock climbing, hill walking, raft building amongst others. We can also provide training and assessment for National Governing Body Qualifications including ML, BCU, RYA, Archery GB and NSRA. Why not bring your Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers to Great Tower to complete some of their badge work. We can deliver various activity badges such as Backwoods Cooking, Emergency Aid, Naturalist, Geocaching, Climber or Survival Skills to name a few and elements of the progressive award scheme.
