Welcome to our 8 day tour. We are delighted to present this exciting tour which represents excellent value. I am sure most people have been to Brisbane at some time, but most likely have never explored what the city and its surrounds have to offer. Our superior accommodation is at the Hilton Properties both in the Centre of Brisbane and Surfers Paradise. The city of Brisbane is built on the Brisbane River, so we have included 2 river cruises including the famous Kookaburra River Queen paddle steamer for a night of entertainment. We also visit nearby Stradbroke Island, Sunshine Coast & Mt. Tamborine areas. We finish the week with the NEW Outback Spectacular dinner show. The Brisbane area has so much to offer and we look forward to showing you the best. DAY 1: Wednesday 5th September, 2018 Melbourne Brisbane With pickup from our homes, we transfer to Melbourne Airport to join our direct flight to Brisbane. We will be met in Brisbane by our O Shannessy s coach crew and taken on a short drive along the beautiful Brisbane River. We visit historic Miegunyah House for a tour and Devonshire Tea. Built in the 1880 s when local tradition was at its most opulent, Miegunyah is richly decorated with iron-lace
balustrades, filigree columns and friezes and furnished in the style of the late 19th century - a living example of Victorian elegance and charm. Step through the wide cedar door into the House Museum and be fascinated by exotic collectables from travels afar. We learn about the people who lived at Miegunyah and ghosts that never left. We even get a glimpse of the labours of 19th century housekeeping! Later this afternoon, we check into our Motel, with time to relax before dinner. Overnight: Hilton CBD, BRISBANE DAY 2: Thursday 6th September, 2018 City Highlights, Mt. Coot-tha, Botanic Gardens, River Cruise The Botanic Gardens were first established in 1858 and are located on a bend in the Brisbane River. These gardens are definitely up there as one of Brisbane's beautiful parks. A notable feature of the gardens is the mangrove boardwalk with an avenue of bunya pines. After spending time walking around the gardens, we take a short drive through some of the inner suburbs of Brisbane to the Mt Coot-tha Lookout to view the panorama of Brisbane City and its surrounds from the observation deck. The lookout has been a favourite destination for both residents and visitors to Brisbane since before the turn of the century. In 1880, One Tree Hill, as Mt Coot-tha was then known, together with the surrounding area of 1,500 acres, was declared a reserve for public recreation. Hopefully, the sun will be shining over Brisbane, out to Moreton Bay. We return to the city South Bank area to board a Brisbane River City Cruise. Sit back, relax and enjoy a light lunch, whilst listening to the Captains commentary. We will be surprised by Brisbane s picturesque foreshore and
intriguing history. After disembarking from the cruise, we head for the Wheel of Brisbane for a unique viewpoint of Brisbane. The Wheel offers astounding 360 degree panoramic views of South Bank and beyond, all from a comfortable, climate controlled gondola. Overnight: Hilton CBD, BRISBANE DAY 3: Friday 7th September, 2018 Free morning, Maritime Museum & Kookaburra River Queen Dinner Cruise As our Motel is right in the centre of Brisbane City, we will have some free time to explore the city and Mall. Lunch is at your own expense today, available from one of the many cafes in the City Centre. This afternoon we visit the Brisbane Maritime Museum where we view extensive collections of historical maritime artifacts, books, documents and photographs, and also a large range of vessels and a dry dock. We return to the Motel for a rest and freshen up before we go out on the iconic Kookaburra Queen Paddle Wheeler with an all new Dinner Cruise. We can view Brisbane s best sights including the Kangaroo Point cliffs, South Bank precinct, the Story Bridge and many more of this city s sensational attractions. Lunch own expense/arrangements Overnight: Hilton CBD, BRISBANE
Day 4: Saturday 8th September, 2018 Stradbroke Island Today we explore beautiful Stradbroke Island, part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park. Straddie (to the locals) is known for some of the most spectacular scenery found anywhere in Australia. The island is famous for its scenic headlands, rolling surf and endless white sandy beaches. Three little townships on the island provide a relaxed village atmosphere. Whale watching from Point Lookout gives the best landbased whale-watching site in the world, or we can experience some of the best views on the island from The Gorge Walk. The local ferry takes us over in our coach to North Stradbroke Island, where we are joined by a guide who will take us to the north of the island with spectacular views and tell us all about the early history of this beautiful island. We return around 5pm to make our way back to our Motel. Overnight: Hilton CBD, BRISBANE DAY 5: Sunday 9th September, 2018 Mount Mee, Mary Cairncross Lookout, Montville After breakfast, we drive via the Bruce Highway to the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Our first stop is for Morning Tea at the new Information Centre at the Mary Cairncross Lookout. We view the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains from here and spend time walking
through the Nature Reserve donated to the local community. Our next stop is at Montville township, for a lunch break and we have time to explore the local wares. On our way back to Brisbane we take the back road through Mount Mee Range we have spectacular scenery and views from the summit. Lunch own expense/arrangements Overnight: Hilton CBD, BRISBANE DAY 6: Monday 10th September, 2018 Mt. Tamborine We head south today, travelling up to the Gold Coast Hinterland to visit Mt. Tamborine and all it has to offer. Our first stop is at Thunderbird Park for morning tea and an informative talk about the largest deposit of thunder eggs in the world. We will learn about Thunder Eggs, crystals; precious and semiprecious stones. The mineral rich seam that runs through Mount Tamborine was discovered at Thunderbird park in 1967. Today, the ground at 300m by 50m open-cut mine has an endless supply of thunder eggs. From here we continue to the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk. Our walk departs from the Rainforest Eco Gallery along a spectacular elevated walkway through the beautiful middle and upper canopies of the rainforest. This stable, high-tech steel structure enables us to explore the canopies in a safe and secure way. It descends gradually to the lower canopy and follows points of interest including rock pools and waterfalls, a butterfly lookout, local history enclosure and sheltered rest areas along the way until reaching the amazing Cantilever. This is a 40 metre long span soaring 30 metres above the valley, with spectacular views over the
creek and the rainforest canopies below. Finally the walk returns along the rainforest floor to the Centre. After a lunch stop with amazing views over the Gold Coast, we head to Gallery Walk allowing time for us to visit some of the beautiful galleries and shops in the area. We also visit the Tamborine Mountain Glow-worm Caves. An underground journey through spectacular purpose-built caves where we can experience one of the largest colonies in the world. The caves consist of two large chambers interlinked by tunnels and our half hour tour will take us onto timber walkways and through cool rainforest. We view an audio-visual, view stalagmites and stalactites, water features and thousands of glowing Glow Worms! After a great day, we make our way back down off the mountain to our accommodation in Surfers Paradise our stop for the next 2 nights. Overnight: Hilton Surfers Paradise, SURFERS PARADISE DAY 7: Tuesday 11th September, 2018 Aquaduck, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Outback Spectacular Show Our first stop today is at the famous Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary - a heritage listed zoological garden that was built back in 1947. We meet some of Australia s most beautiful species of birds in the free flight bird show from our largest bird in flight, the Australian Pelican, to our colourful parrots, birds of prey, endangered species and the majestic wedge-tailed eagle. We marvel at the beauty of these incredicble creatures as they free-fly across the audience in a wonderful display set against the Sanctuary s natural environment. Make sure you hang around for a photo taken with a bird of prey at the end of the show! This afternoon, we take a unique
tour on the Aquaduck taking in the sights of Surfers Paradise both on land and on water. The tour guide will help explain all the sights of the area. After a great day, we head back to our accommodation in time to get ready for tonights show - we are off to the amazing Australian Outback Spectacular dinner show. Filled with outback music, drama and action a night we will never forget.
