Klondike Derby 2017 February 3-5, 2017 Trexler Scout Reservation/Akelaland Jonas, PA
There s some trouble in the past. (How To Travel Back In Time according to Doc) Since coming up with the idea, Doc Brown spent many years and most of his family fortune trying to get it to work. By 1962, he had invented the temporal field capacitor. It was a prototype time machine that was able to send objects through time, but only during the lifespan of the device. It could only send objects forward through time, as sending objects even a few minutes into the past would cause a buildup of flux energy. If an object was sent any further back than that, the arrival of the object would overheat the capacitor and start an electrical fire. The problem with the build-up of flux energy was solved by the flux capacitor, allowing time travel to the future, as well as the past. (The Trouble) Our fellow scouters from the past seem to be suffering from a bit of amnesia with their scouting skills, their Scoutmasters and District leadership aren't sure what to make of this. (Your Mission) Return to the past, future and present to help refresh our fellow scouts with their skills in the outdoors. And remember Forks of the Delaware District has a rich scouting heritage that we need to continue into the Future, this is why you must go back,, BACK TO THE FUTURE!
Back to The Future! PROGRAM NOTES, BSA REQUIREMENTS Youth must be a registered Scout or Venture to participate in Back to the Future Klondike for insurance purposes. Arrow of Light scouts may be invited to participate with your troop but must be included as part of a Scout Patrol or Crew. SLEDS: DeLorean(klondike sled) must be built or put back in shape (don t forget to wax up runners). There are plans available to build sleds online and if you ask around you may even find a sled to borrow. Sled Requirements (Required and Inspected at Check-in) 1. The sled must be a minimum of 4 feet long and 18 inches wide 2. Each sled must display a patrol flag 3. No commercially built sleds may be used. Real skis may be used for runners 4. Patrols: In order to keep the space-time continuum from being disrupted patrols should consist of 6 to 8 scouts. Remember, we want all scouts to return safely to the present time. Scouts will be required to register as a patrol and provide a roster of the names of those participating. Activities your patrols can do to prepare for time travel: Build, Repair or update a klondike sled - Since patrols should be no more than 8 scouts, it s important to have enough sleds. Form Patrols and select a call and name- The dog team consists of 6-8 Scouts that will do the work of the huskies by pulling the sled. The team driver (person walking behind sled) guides his huskies. Collect Personal Health and Medical Records for all youth and Adults- Health Forms can be downloaded at the council website. Gather the Required Equipment Needed - Each patrol will earn points for bringing the correct items. The required equipment as listed on later page.. Practice your Scout Skills - The events give clues as to the skill that will be required to Travel to the past, present and future. Klondike soup - There will be Back to the Future soup at a designated location. Hot lunch: Points will be rewarded for Hot Lunch on the trail, so whatever you have, be prepared to warm it or cook it up! TIME PERIODS: In each time period you arrive in, 1857, 1910, etc, you will be greeted by Scouters. Now even though they may look at you as though you are from another time or place,( while actually you are) just demonstrate your Scout Skills. They will have no doubt who you are as well as who they are. And for you trivia fans, station year may have some scouting/movie significance, so, What s the scout motto?
