A visit to South Africa would not be complete without a stop in Cape Town - the Mother City, known to many as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Spend a few days visiting numerous sights such as Cape Point, Boulders Beach and the Great White Cage Diving in Gansbaai. Your Itinerary NOTE: Due to weather conditions, some activities might change or need to be exchanged in the case of adverse weather conditions. Accommodation can also change due to availability. DAY 1: After finishing the Eco Adventure trip you will get transfer back up to Port Elizabeth Airport with the rest of the group, but then instead of flying home you will hop on a plane to Cape Town (around 1 hour) often described as a little bit of the Mediterranean in Africa. This is a relaxed city with so much on offer. Whether shopping, restaurants, bars, helicopter trips or historical visits are your thing, Cape Town has something for everyone, all set against a landscape of outstanding natural beauty. Met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. OVERNIGHT: Breakwater Lodge, Cape Town MEALS: Breakfast DAY 2: After an early breakfast, you will get a transfer to Gansbaai (approx. 2,5hr drive), for the Great White Shark Cage excursion. After a short briefing you will depart for Shark Alley, which is a channel located 6km offshore between two islands inhabited by penguins, seals and sea birds. The crew on the boat attract the sharks and keep them interested in the boat giving divers opportunities to view the sharks underwater while being protected in a steel cage. DAY 3: After breakfast, you will be collected for a half day Cape Point Tour. Enjoy a scenic drive alongside the Atlantic Ocean via Chapman s Peak drive (200 meter drop on one side & high cliffs on the other), to Cape Point Nature Reserve - the meeting place of the two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. On route back to your hotel continue along the Indian Ocean where you will pass the naval base of Simons town and the Jackass Penguin colony at Boulders Beach, before ending the tour back at your hotel around midday. Boulders Beach Located in Simons town, Boulders beach is home to one of the only remaining colonies of Africa Penguins, these curious creatures nest in a protected beach, walkways have been built above the beach allowing you to get very close to them without disturbing them, this is well worth a visit. Cape point Driving past Simons town you will follow the coastline to the end of the Cape peninsular where you will find the Cape point National Park, this spectacular area is home to the endangered Mountain Zebra and the Olive Baboon. Once in the park you will drive to the end of the road where you will find the visitors centre, from there you can either take the train or walk up to the point itself, although not the most Southerly point in Africa its very close, looking south; next stop Antarctica OVERNIGHT: Breakwater Lodge, Cape Town MEALS: Breakfast
DAY 4: You have free time for optional excursions including Table Mountain, Robben Island, Helicopter Flips around the city centre, Wine Tours etc. Table Mountain Cape Town is one of the most spectacular cities in the world without doubt and Table Mountain is the reason, you can either take the cable car to the top or you can walk, but be warned, it's a long, hot route at this time of year so if you do choose to do it then please ensure that you take plenty of water and have strong walking shoes. Whichever way you get to the top the result is the same; on a good clear day you can see Robben Island and Cape point itself. There is a café on top, which is a perfect place to have lunch. Robben Island The dark history of South Africa is no secret, nor should it been; SA is a country of wonderful contrast, and that is largely due to its past, the people have a amazing amount of drive and determination to develop their nation into the best country it can possibly be. This passion that ignited this country came from one man, Nelson Mandela spent 27 years on the tiny Island that you can see in the picture above. If you are interested in the history of South Africa then you should visit Robben Island. The boats leave from the waterfront twice a day, as you are travelling in high season we highly recommend booking online well in advice, this is easily done on the link below.
