The Yellow Rose... May, 2017 - Newsletter Texas Gulf Coast Unit 103 WBAC Doc Cain Memorial Fishing Rally May 11th-14th Mary Watermann President Joint Rally With: Heart of Texas Camping Unit Janie Wagenor President & Texas Hill County Unit Doug Wiley President Personally I would like to express my appreciation to those of you who attended and participated in the Region 9 rally. Texas Gulf Coast brought home numerous ribbons: first and second place in balloon volleyball and second place in beanbag baseball. Tommy Largent won first place in men s holey board, and Mary Rowell took first place in women s holey board. In the joker/international tournament, Suzanne Cronin won first place, and Mary Rowell, third place. Mary Rowell won first place in Mexican train, Dee Bryant second place, and Suzanne Cronin, honorable mention. Tommy Largent won second place in forty-two. Also, Suzanne Cronin brought home a blue ribbon for her crazy beach hat. The Big Bend Caravan, which included a caravan of ten trailers from the Texas Gulf Coast unit, was a great success. Those who attended have many fond memories, good stories, and great pictures. We were delighted to have some first timers on this caravan.

The Easter Parade rally was great fun. We decorated Easter bonnets for the Saturday night dinner. Kudos to Paul for wearing the hat I created for him. Wayne Sullins unusual Easter hat was shear, black, and had feathers! The home cooked meal, complete with delicious desserts, was enjoyed by all. Lindsey Brou, a Melaleuca representative, gave a very interesting and informative presentation. We learned we all could live a cleaner, healthier life. Several of our members signed up to change the way they live through benefits of Melaleuca living. Let s all look forward to the May rally, the Jaws theme rally. This is our annual Doc Cain fishing tournament rally which we will share with members of the Heart of Texas and Texas Hill Country units. Our park will be buzzing with fun, fishing, food, and fellowship. Lots of great prizes will be awarded. Come and bring your A game, rods, reels, bait, and boats. texas airstream harbor News & Views.. We are anticipating a large crowd for the upcoming TGCU 5th Annual Doc Cain Memorial Fishing Tournament and we want to be sure that our park is sparkling for our visitors. Please take the time to look around your cabana and clean up and pick up if things are out that would normally be put away somewhere. Most of our anticipated guests have expressed a desire to boondock down by the lake or point area, but may change their minds accordingly based on weather conditions. Beautification projects continue...shutters have been made (by Bill Pearson) and painted..by the girls and they have been placed on windows of the clubhouse (via Paul, Carl & Fred). The girls also planted new shrubbery in front of the clubhouse. Member Bob Avery is painting a new 8 x 16 foot TAHI sign to be placed on the East end of the clubhouse that will be visible as you drive up to the clubhouse on Holly street. Dave Hudson purchased the two lots on Magnolia street with the large Oak tree with the Tree Well around it from the Flournoy family. He is anticipating the building of a cabana there. Plans have not be submitted just yet, however. Construction is still ongoing on Magnolia street, however there is daylight at the end of the tunnel. The Avery s should be moving into their new cabana by mid April and Randy and Nancy Robinson are hoping to have their construction completed on their re-model by the end of April. Over on Oak street construction is still ongoing on the Nelson s new cabana and their Airstream storage cabana next door. John & Brenda Jacobs purchased the Mobile Home lots on Angelina street from the Flournoy family and the adjoining property behind it, also. A reminder that May is a membership meeting of TAHI and everyone is encouraged to attend as we will be discussing and voting on improvements to our roads and equipment. And, there is a committee of three ladies that are interviewing and asking TAHI members if they will serve on the board of directors. Three positions will be voted on during the annual meeting in December. Included in our last newsletter was the possibility of updating the control equipment at the water plant to a more modern system. We received that bid and it is cost prohibitive at this Guests Loryn & Lindsey enjoying Kayaking at TAHI A Mother and Daughter Moment--Enjoying A beautiful TAHI sunset

News & Views...continued from page - 6 point. However, the good news is that the bid submitted can be used in a grant that we are applying for to upgrade the system. Dee Bryant, Nancy Fitzgerald and Cindy Gilliam (Evelyn Clegg s daughter) are putting the proposal together. Please encourage them and if asked for information that you might provide to them to better our proposal be ready to help. The mowing season is here and we find that all three of our riding mowers are not operable at this time. The board voted to maintain the mowers as much as possible, (belts, tires, blades, etc) until they become too expensive to maintain. If you use these mowers, please do your share by taking care not to run over concrete, hitting limbs or just plain running into things. And, when finished, please clean the mowers with the blower provided at the fuel shed. Also note the newly painted Crosses at the point..(thank you Louie Smith)... and the benches (newly painted and framed by RutheAnn)... to relax while enjoying the lake and sunsets at The Point. The chalkboard at the kiosk was painted by Dana Kelley and Mary Watermann has painted our water test sites and visitor flags! The Girls (Taryn, Mary, RutheAnn & Dana) Armed with shovels & post hole diggers these ladies planted new shrubs at the clubhouse.
