Her mission is to provide in-depth protection for military and merchant shipping, amphibious task forces and underway replenishment groups. b. JOHN L HALL'S immediate senior is Commander, Destroyer Squadron Six. She is home ported out of Pascagoula, Mississippi. c. (U) Basic Narrative a. 01 January the JOHN L. HALL celebrated the new year undemay on Counter Drug Patrol in the Eastern Pacific. b. 31 January the ship arrived in Manta, Ecuador to enjoy the sites and unique culture of the area. c. On or about 03 February OSSN Mortaya was struck by a vehicle while on liberty and died in Manta, Ecuador. d. 07 February JOHN L. HALL departed Manta, Ecuador.

e. 09 March the ship enjoyed another port visit in the exotic VNB, Panama. f. 10 March the USS John L Hall completed an eight-hour transit through the historic Panama Canal leaving behind the eastern Pacific Ocean and entering the Caribbean waters. g. 10-13 March the crew relaxed in the tropical Cartagna, Colombia. h. 18 March the JOHN L. HALL returned home from a grueling Counter Drug Operation deployment. During the five and half months the ship participated in twelve boardings of suspect vessels and seized over seven metric tons of contraband. i. 23 April the JOHN L. HALL arrived in Yorktown, Va for weapons off load. j. 24 April was a high profile visit from the descendants of Admiral JOHN L. HALL. k. 15-19 May the crew enjoyed a couple of days off in New Orleims, LA. 1. 21-27 May the ship conducted a port visit to Ingleside, TX to use facilities at NS Ingleside for Shipboard Firefighting training. m. 06 June - 06 September - The JOHN L. HALL was drydocked in Bender shipyard Mobile, A1 for a complete overhaul. A few of the major jobs completed was a new sonar dome, new propeller, and the addition of a stern flap to make the ship more hydrodynamic. n. 08 September while at sea in vicinity of Key West, FL. Commander Thomas A. Flisk Jr. transferred command to Commander Eric C. Young. o. 15 September - 27 October The ship completed a much needed Depot Service Repair Availability in Mayport, FL. p. 11-14 November the ship underwent a Command Assessment Readiness of training level 11.

q. 07-12 December the JOHN L. HALL participated in Operation Forces Expeditionary Strike Group Exercise. r. 19-31 December the JOHN L. HALL closed out the year in port Pascagoula, MS conducting holiday stand down leave. E. C. YOUNG
