Instructions for Use Parts List 1. WoodGas camp stove 2. Battery Holder / Power Plug 3. Pan Holder 4. Stove Removable Handle 5. Adjustment Screws 6. This manual 7. Storage bag Starting the Stove CAUTION: Before using the stove, please have a container with water nearby in case of fire, should the stove be knocked over or a user is burned 1. Find a handful or two of fuel and some tinder (see fuels and tinder section below). 2. With the power unplugged, fill the stove with the fuel to just below the upper layer of air holes. 3. Evenly distribute a layer of tinder on top of the fuel. 4. Light the top of the tinder with a match or a lighter. 5. When the tinder begins burning on the surface, insert the battery pack to power the fan on low. 6. Allow the burning to continue for a minute or two, then switch the battery pack to high speed for maximum heat. Hi power should be sufficient to boil water fairly quickly. Use Low power for simmer or frying. 7. If the tinder has been consumed, but the fuel will not burn without a great deal of smoke, the stove has not reached a high enough temperature to burn properly. If this occurs, add more tinder to start the fire again. The fuel and the internal stove must reach a certain temperature for the stove to burn properly. 8. Put the pan holder and pot on the stove and begin cooking. Regulate the heat by alternating between the high and low fan settings. 9. If the cooking session lasts longer than the fuel, add more fuel slowly to the stove. Adding too much fuel to recharge will cause the fire to go out, and smoke to be produced. The stove should run for as long as fuel is added and the batteries maintain their charge. For long burn times, sawdust pellets are highly recommended. CAUTION: should the flame go out while cooking, exercise caution when handling the stove since it may be hot to the touch. Always use the stove handle if and when the stove must be moved. Fuels and Tinder Fuel Materials: Wood chips twigs sawdust pellets leaves grasses bark pine cones charcoal. Fuels should be dry for ease of starting and efficient operation. CAUTION: Do not use liquids, plastics, or treated wood. If paper or cardboard is used it must be torn into small pieces to allow for airflow. Tinder (a.k.a. kindling) Materials: Birch bark Pine needles Fire Starting Sticks Dry Spanish moss Gel Fire Starter Use of commercial fire starters, such as Fire Starting Gel or Starting Sticks is generally easier, as they burn long enough to bring the stove up to temperature. CAUTION: Do not pour flammable liquids (other than Fire Starting Gel) into the stove, as it will destroy electrical components and may severely burn or kill the user.
Instructions For Use (cont) Stopping the Stove After Cooking After cooking, continue running the fan and allow the flame to naturally extinguish itself. After the flame extinguishes, allow the fan to run on low speed for about five minutes (allowing the charcoal to be consumed) and then disconnect the battery pack. Allow the stove to completely cool down (stove is very hot to the touch), dump the spent fuel into some water or bury in a dirt hole with water poured on top. (Never pour water into the stove to extinguish the stove, doing so may ruin the electronics in the stove). Warning: Disconnecting the power to the stove while the fire is still burning will cause the fire to go out but large amounts of smoke to be produced. Performance of the Stove The fan operates on two (2) AA batteries. Battery life for normal alkaline batteries will be approximately 10 hours. It generates approximately 3 KW of heat (equivalent to one big element on an electric stove) on high speed, capable of bringing a quart of water to a boil in approximately 5-6 minutes. Performance Adjustments This stove can be adjusted for optimal performance for the effect of altitude and fuel use by the application of the screws shipped with the stove. Each screw must be placed in one of the lower holes in the inner can of the stove. They adjust the airflow through the bottom of the stove, thereby increasing the operating efficiency of the stove. If more than one screw is required it is recommended that the screws be placed opposite from each other on the stove. The following table is the recommended number of screws based on altitude. Altitude (ft/m) #screws 0-3000/0-1000 2 3000-7000/1000/2200 1 70000+/2200+ 0 One (1) Year Limited Warranty This warranty is valid only for the original retail purchaser from the date of retail purchase and is not transferable. warrants to the original purchaser that this product will be free from defects in material and workmanship. will repair or replace this product, at its option, or any component of the product found to be defective during the warranty period. will replace a defective product or component with a new or re-manufactured product or component.
