Note that this time has now reverted to its original time. The next walk will be decided on the day of the previous walk. Occasionally, the start time and place is different. Watch the website for any late changes. For information, phone Bob Diamond or Graham Murray. b) Short Walkers meet at Milngavie CE Leisure Centre at 10:00. For information, phone Andrew Summers. All Saturday & Sunday walks meet at Milngavie Station Car Park (MSCP) Walks with Buses There is only one minibus walk in this programme on March 20. Booking details will be found with the walk details on page 8 of this programme. Book with Fiona Taylor for this walk. Please note that there will be no refunds for cancellation less than a fortnight before the bus, unless the place on the bus can be filled from the waiting list. The summer bus walk schedule is being planned at the moment. Full details will be in the next programme. Turn South and descend at Knockybuckle to Lennoxtown via Garmore. Return to Clachan from Lennoxtown along the old railway path. Grassy hills and paths. There will be a members walk in the afternoon, along the Clyde Walkway, organised jointly by Glasgow and Glasgow Young Walkers Groups. There will be no Group organised walk. New walk repeated in opposite direction. Coffee stop at Dobbies. Sun Feb 6 Wed Feb 9 No organised walk Sat Feb 12 Walk: Balloch Circular B+ Leaders: Alastair Clark 16km (10miles) Euan Kilpatrick Ascent: 400m Meet at MSCP: 09:00 (1312ft) OS Sheet: LR 56 Exp 347 Other Details: A walk starting in Balloch using the first section of the Three Lochs Way via the cycle path beside Loch Lomond, then towards Helensburgh for the outward route. Return is via the Hill Route Alternative and is on rough tracks, moorland and then the Stoneymollan Road to Balloch. (Details of The Three Lochs Way on the website www.threelochsway.co.uk) No coffee at start. Sun Feb 13 Walk: Lusset Glen, Old Kilpatrick Circular C (nr. Dumbarton) 10km (6miles) Leaders: Jean McManus GR: NS 729 468 Isobel Walker OS Sheet: LR 64 Exp 342 Other Details: We leave from the area of Old Kilpatrick Bowling Club, down through the Lusset Glen to the River Clyde. We walk along the saltings, then onto an informal path on the river bank. At Bowling Harbour we have a look at the marina and then head to Milton via the cycle/pedestrian path constructed on the old railway. At Milton there is a Little Chef where we will have our lunch stop. Picnic tables canbe used if carrying packed lunch. This walk is very flat and easy. No coffee stop at start. Page 5

Maybe a shade boggy in places. Sun Feb 20 Walk: Lenzie Railway Path Circular C Leader: Helena Bartos 10km (6miles) Ascent: 50m OS Sheet: LR 64 Exp 342 (150 ft) Other Details: From Kirkintilloch along the railway path to Lenzie GR: NS 656 731 and beyond. Return via Central Scotland Forest. Mostly paths. Coffee stop in Kirkintilloch at the start. Wed Feb 23 Sat Feb 26 Walk: Loch Lomondside and Cashel C+ Leader: Mary Darke 10.5km (7miles) Ascent: 300m OS Sheet: LR 56 Exp 347 (1000ft) Other Details: A short section of the WHW followed by an easy hill walk with good footpaths above Cashel. The Cashel section is a circular walk with splendid views if weather allows. We then return along the same WHW route. No coffee stop at start. Refreshment after the walk at the Oak Tree, Balmaha. Sun Feb 27 Walk: Binnein an Fhidhleir A Leaders: Frank Pieri 10km (6miles) Ascent: 700m Meet at MSCP: 08:30 (2297ft) OS Sheet: LR 56 Exp 364 GR: NN 215 108 Other Details: A Corbett to the north of Glen Kinglas. Superb views to Loch Fyne and beyond. Once on the hill there are no paths. Wed Mar 2 March 2011 Sat Mar 5 Walk: Cochno Loch and Kilmannan Reservoir B Leaders: Fiona Taylor 21km (13miles) Hazel Miller Ascent: 368m Meet at MSCP: 09:00 (1207ft) OS Sheet: LR 64 Exp 347 GR: NS 503 740 Other Details: Easy, pleasant walking with gentle climbing in the Kilpatrick Hills. Views over the Clyde Basin. Coffee/pub at end still to be recce d. Sun Mar 6 Walk: Roman Camp to Bracklinn Falls, Callander C+ Leaders: Lilias & Andrew Summers 11km (7miles) OS Sheet: LR 57 Exp 368 Other Details: Circular walk from Callander Town Centre via the Roman Camp, River Teith and up through forest to Bracklinn Falls. Coffee stop in Callander. Wed Mar 9 Thu Mar 10 Ladies Who Lunch Venue: Scholars Restaurant City of Glasgow College, Cathedral Street Time: 12 noon A repeat of this ever-popular event. Steep climb but good path up. Less well marked on ridge. Spectacular views from the top. May be extended, pending recce and the weather. Coffee / pub at end. Sun Mar 13 Walk: Baron s Haugh, Motherwell C Leaders: Thea Stanton 10km (6miles) Jenny Kane OS Sheet: LR 64 Exp 343 Other Details: Walk from Strathclyde Country Park along the Clyde Walkway to Baron s Haugh RSPB nature reserve and round Dalzell Estate. Tracks and paths. Mostly flat, only one short incline. Coffee at Watersports Centre. Page 7

March 2011 Wed Mar 16 Sat Mar 19 Walk: Circular Walk, Kippen C+ Leaders: Maria Pieri 13km (8miles) Ellen Robertson OS Sheet: LR 57 Exp 366/348 Other Details: This 8-mile walk starts and finishes at the War Memorial at Kippen. It includes lanes and farm tracks (could be muddy!) and there is a gate to climb over. The views are magnificent and include Ben Vorlich, Stuc a Chroin and Ben Ledi. Coffee stop venue to be announced. Sun Mar 20 Walk: Traquair to Galashiels - a section of the Southern B+ Uplands Way 22.2km (13.8miles) Leaders: Peter & Helena Bartos Total ascent: 570m (1800 ft) Meet at MSCP: 08:30 OS Sheet: LR 73 Exp 460/461 Other Details: We climb up eastward towards Minchmoor, followed by a ridge walk with excellent Border country views to Three Brethren, then a descent to cross the River Tweed at Yair Bridge and over a hill to Galashiels. Sun Mar 27 Walk: Falkirk Wheel Circular C Leader: Ailsa Millar 11km (7miles) OS Sheet: LR 65 Exp 349 Other Details: We leave the wheel, then follow tracks to the Roughcastle Roman Fort. We then walk up to Community Woodland and follow old tracks to the site of the Battle of Falkirk at Bantaskin Estate, dropping down to the Union Canal and back to the Wheel. Coffee at Falkirk Wheel. Wed Mar 30 Sat Apr 2 Walk: Kilcreggan Circular C Leader: Stuart Ferguson 11.5km (7miles) Meet at MSCP: 09:00 OS Sheet: LR 63 Exp 347 Other Details: Ferry from Gourock to Kilcreggan (and back). Mainly level walk around Roseneath Point and Castle Point, then one slow ascent up into forest to height of 130 metres and returning downhill to Kilcreggan. We continue to Earl s Seat on a steady incline. Good views on a clear day. No coffee stop at start of walk. Sun Apr 10 Walk: Brig o Turk Circular C Leader: Euan Kilpatrick 8km (5miles) GR: NN 537 067 OS Sheet: LR 57 Exp 365 Other Details: A short ascent on road to a viewpoint then a Balcony walk before the descent to Little Drum Wood and return to start. Outstanding views over Loch Venachar and beyond. Coffee stop to be recced. April 2011 Sun Apr 17 Walk: Carron Valley C Leaders: Doreen Kingsbury 11km (7miles) Lilias Clark OS Sheet: LR 56/57 Exp 348 Other Details: Park at Todholes (entrance to Windfarm). We will get the hilly bit over first, stopping for lunch beside the bridge then continuing alongside the Carron Valley Reservoir for the return journey. Coffee at either Sports Club or Courtyard. Wed Apr 20 Sat Apr 23 Walk: Ben Venue from Loch Achray B (SHW) Leaders: Thea Stanton 11km (7miles) Madeleine Blackley Ascent: 656m Meet at MSCP: 09:00 (2152ft) OS Sheet: LR 57 Exp 365 GR: NN 505 068 Other Details: A bit of everything on this fine hill. Gaiters will be (start) an advantage. Conditions permitting descent will be by north-east side towards the Katrine Sluices. Sun Apr 24 Wed Apr 27 Easter Sunday.
