The province's capital city is a delightful blend of old-world charm and newworld elegance. Day 2: Friday, August 5, 2016 St. John s Meet your fellow travellers this morning over breakfast. Then come to know North America s oldest and easternmost city on a tour highlighting Signal Hill, Cape Spear lighthouse, Government House, and the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Continue on to tour the quaint fishing harbour of Quidi Vidi Village. Watch for puffins on a nature cruise to Witless Bay Ecological Reserve where millions of seabirds gather to nest. A local specialist joins us for a talk on the marine life in the region, especially the thousands of Humpback and Minke whales who make this their home. Tonight, savour your first Newfoundland dinner with lobster on the beach. (B, D) Day 3: Saturday, August 6, 2016 St. John s - Clarenville Area Traverse the picturesque coastal drive that surrounds stunning Conception Bay. Make a stop in charming Brigus to spend some time in a traditional Newfoundland fishing village. Then it s on to Cupids Cove Archaeological Site, the remnants of the oldest English settlement in Canada. Join an expert for a private tour at the Legacy Centre revealing life in the early 1600s and get to know the culture during a musical performance. Then, get your hands dirty during a hands-on lesson in archaeology. This evening, prepare to have fun at a traditional Newfoundland gathering known as a Jig s dinner. (B, D) Day 4: Sunday, August 7, 2016 Clarenville - Cape Bonavista - Clarenville Area In Trinity Village, relive days gone by during visits to historic buildings including the Georgian Lester-Garland House and the Green Family Forge, a living history blacksmith's museum. lighthouse to take in the sweeping views - you may even spot an iceberg! (B) Day 5: Monday, August 8, 2016 Clarenville - Terra Nova National Park - Twillingate Travel to breathtaking Terra Nova National Park where the forest meets the sea. Stand in awe of the park s towering cliffs and tranquil bays. Spend some time exploring the Marine Atlantic Centre that features an interactive exhibit introducing you to the region s marine life. Your day comes to a close at Longpoint Lighthouse, a location that affords prime viewing over Iceberg Alley. (B, D) Day 6: Tuesday, August 9, 2016 Twillingate - Gros Morne Depart Twillingate and head to Boyd s Cove. Explore the Beothuk Interpretation Centre where you ll learn about Beothuk Village and its indigenous people who lived here over 300 years ago. Then enjoy a short walk along a trail that showcases the house pits, the only evidence left of these now extinct residents. Later, head to Gros Morne National Park for your two-night stay surrounded by nature. (B) Day 7: Wednesday, August 10, 2016 Gros Morne National Park Today we visit the Discovery Centre and learn how natural forces have shaped the park s landscape of dramatic vistas that are among the most spectacular in Atlantic Canada. A visit to Tableland Mountains is followed by further exploration of the park s hidden fjords, stark mountains and highland tundra. From a boat, experience the fjords from a new perspective and watch for whales and eagles while listening to traditional Newfoundland music. (B, D) Day 8: Thursday, August 11, 2016 Gros Morne - St. Anthony Journey along the Viking Trail to L Anse aux Meadows and travel back to A.D. 1000 when Vikings first made landfall. See how Newfoundlanders have adapted to this forbidding landscape and experience firsthand their unique solutions to living under extreme conditions. Later, a visit to a local Econo-museum reveals the famous local partridgeberry and bakeapple and how you can make

them into jams, sauces and vinegars. (B, D) Day 9: Friday, August 12, 2016 St. Anthony - L Anse Au Clair, Labrador Board a ferry this morning and cross the Straits of Belle Isle to Labrador. Learn about the history and importance of whaling to this region as you pass by colourful fishing villages. Arrive in Red Bay and spend some time at Red Bay National Historic Site. This UNESCO World Heritage site recounts the traditions of Basque whalers in the 16th century. Then it s off to Point Amour Lighthouse to watch for icebergs; visit a 4,200-year-old gravesite; and see the remains of a scuttled British war ship. (B, D) Day 10: Saturday, August 13, 2016 L Anse Au Clair - Cornerbrook, Newfoundland A morning ferry ride takes you back to Newfoundland. Today s journey brings you along the roads that James Cook took back in 1770. Sit back and take in the spectacular scenery that unfolds along the way. Be sure to have your camera ready! (B) Day 11: Sunday, August 14, 2016 Cornerbrook Visit a local mineral and stone specialist for a discussion on Labradorite, a colourful stone that is claimed to have mystical powers. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to explore on your own. Tonight, a trio known as the Sharecroppers will delight you with a variety of traditional and original songs. These serene lands are also a UNESCO World Heritage site and geological wonder. Its fascinating Tablelands are uniquely made up of rock that is only found deep inside the earth s mantle layer.
