Fellowship on Wheels Issue: 6 Established 1949 June 2013 Presidents Report Happy 64 th Birthday to our Club And welcome to T&GWCC for a shared Rally We had a combined rally for our Club 64 th Birthday held at Toogoolawah Showgrounds between the Queensland Caravan Club & the Toowoomba Golden West Caravan Club. A very enjoyable and busy weekend for everyone who attended and I am sure members came away with more friends from both clubs. A total of 91 caravans attended this rally 77 from our club and 14 from Toowoomba, thanks to Brian Lewis we all had power on a few very cold nights and mornings. I had the privilege of awarding special presentations to the following members: 50 Rallies: Frank & Rhonda Gaffney & Tony & Sue Stephenson 100 Rallies: Ian & Gwen Egan, Stewart Hornibrook & Graham & Heather McIlvanie 200 Rallies: Ken & Dell McNab Congratulations to all members who received these special milestone awards and hope to see you all at many more rallies in the future. The musical on Friday night with the QCC Big Band received a full house with a great variety of music.we are so lucky to have such great talent in our club entertaining members. The night was organized by Jenny McLeod and the MC Neil Chesney. Thank you to all for a great night. The disc bowls on Saturday morning organized by the Toowoomba club received 60 nominations and was great to see the sportsmanship between the two clubs during the games. The competition was of a high standard and many ladies participating in the games. Also the result to have a member from each club as the overall winners was a good result. Thank you to all members who help clean up after the meeting. This was a great effort and a fantastic job by everyone to have the hall cleaned in 30 minutes all furniture, chairs, tables etc placed away and the floor sweep. I wish you all health, happiness & safe travelling & look forward to seeing you all at Dayboro for the June rally. Regards President John Photographs of members may appear in publications eg: the club magazine or website,or other club sponsored publications.if a member does not wish this to occur, the member should inform the Secretary in writing, and the person taking the photograph. Whilst all care will be taken to comply with this request,no guarantee can be given that this will not occur. The Wanderer Vol 51 Issue 6 Page 1 of 15 June 2013

Entertainment report Friday Golf. As usual, the Happy hackers headed for the green bits with holes dotted here and there. Most successful turned out to be John Gregg from T&GWCC, with runner up Peter Versace from QCC. The Line dancers Lined up and The Book Lovers dusted off their volumes, whilst the Ufo ladies sewed around in circles and nearly disappeared through the eyes of their own needles!! Other industrious Members busied themselves doing an admirable job of setting up the seating for the nights concert as the Entertainers readied the stage for the same. And as I was walking along,i Turned to find the scene depicted in the photo on the left. A half crazed geriatric hoon bearing down on me hoot n and a hollerin like a man posessed! I promised not to name the two Ladies inside, but. I lied!! They where Sue Baker driver and Vicki hills the gleeful passenger The Music,Music,Music Extravaganza on Friday night was nicely put together and once again we got to see and hear the mighty pool of talent our club has at its disposal. I counted 20 performers playing 17 different instruments between them, including the vocalists! The Wanderer Vol 51 Issue 6 Page 6 of 15 June 2013

. The programme was MC d by Neil Chesney, cutting a real dash in his Dinner suit, filling in with the odd joke or two to keep the flow of the concert going. The Pictures above are only a selection to highlight the Talents of our members. Thanks again to All participants in producing and staging the event!! Judging by comments heard the next day, the Toowoomba club members were very impressed! The Wanderer Vol 51 Issue 6 Page 7 of 15 June 2013

Saturday---The giant auction in aid of RFDS was held in the afternoon. 121 Items of all shapes and sizes went under the hammer, with some fantastic bargains being had. The Bidding was spirited and moved along at a lively pace under the Hammership of auctioneer Paul Brearley, assisted by wife Di and various other helpers.the sum raised was approx $1,300, A brilliant effort by both Clubs. Saturday afternoon--- Disc Bowls was well attended even though it got a tad warm out there as the day went on. Again, as usual there was plenty of good camera fodder for me! The Wanderer Vol 51 Issue 6 Page 8 of 15 June 2013

Saturday Night---Mini Drags.--- The racing was preceded by the cake cutting for the clubs 64th Birthday Celebration. This was done by Ron & Pam Petch, long standing QCC members.(see below) Happy 64 th Birthday to the QCC. The Drags got under way with the usual Parade of drivers and crew. Several categories were up for judging and the secret Judges had some hard choices to make. When the real nitty gritty stuff started, the scrutineers had their hands full as there where many dead heats, re-runs and false starts to contend with. The whole atmosphere fair reeked of Pit Lane at Ipswich Raceway!! And some of the stacks were quite spectacular!! Don t forget Members, the drag races will be only one of the many attractions at the 15 th national Rally in Rocky. It s not too late to register, but I would like to remind all attendees they must have their Money paid in full by end of June The Wanderer Vol 51 Issue 6 Page 9 of 15 June 2013

Des McLeod had his hands full trying to get the contestants to toe the line literally! Then there was poor Roy Bridges repeating until he was just about hoarse, wait for the Green, wait for the green. It was like talking to a brick wall some times judging by the number of false starts.nevertheless everyone who participated enjoyed it and the folks in the driver and crew parade went to bed to dream of being the winner of this prestigious event!!(the winners in the various categories were kept in suspense until the Sunday morning meeting!!) Terry Jorgenson was proud to show everyone the quilt made for him by Bev McDowall, to give him comfort during his illness. The quilt had some very special and personal panels on it, including a lovely inscription, pictures of Terry and Terry & Val, and was dotted with the vintage cars he loved so much. Terry said it was a quilt of love and the thought behind it was very much appreciated. Sunday Meeting Report and Photoghraphs Courtesy of Wendy Gibson. CAN CAN NIGHT. (Commentary courtesy of Tom Smith) After handing over our cans of soup and cans of fruit salad, members fronted up at the hall on Sunday evening for dinner. There was some apprehension felt by some who had heard that ALL of the tins of soup were to be tipped into one big boiler and dished out from there. But this was not to be - table numbers were selected randomly and when we reached the serving point big containers of tomato, chicken and mushroom soup were all bubbling away merrily. Everyone was quickly served and then seconds were announced. A number of members took advantage of a 2 nd bowl of soup. After the soup was allowed to settle, desserts were laid out for the member s gastronomical delight. The dessert consisted of trifle, with plenty of fruit salad, custard, jelly, cake and a crispy wafer. I believe these were all made by the McIlvanie s. So many were made, there were plenty left over for seconds as well - and they tasted beaut. Many thanks to ALL the members who heated up and served the soup and laid out the dessert. Your efforts were well worth the results you achieved. It made for a great evening. After dinner, music started up and from the far end of the hall (well it was a CAN CAN night) and an apparition floated towards us dressed in a very authentic looking can can dress, possibly all the way from gay Paree. No it wasn t - could it be - no, um, actually yes, it bore a startling resemblance to our Entertainment Officer, Mary Jacobson. She can-canned all around the floor, between the tables and ultimately disappeared from whence she came. Unfortunately, I have no digital photos to share with you - but boy, I have the most incredible 3 minutes of video - I wonder when the Club s next video night is!! Tom Smith.
