SCIENCE Leading the discovery, understanding and conservation of Australia s plant biodiversity since 1816. RAINFOREST SEED CONSERVATION Australia has lost 75% of its rainforests in the last 200 years. With more than 50% of Australia s rich plant biodiversity currently existing in its rainforests, their survival is critical. Through seedbanking, tissue culture conservation and cryogenic storage, scientists at the Australian PlantBank are successfully protecting this vulnerable ecosystem. RESTORE & RENEW A world first, Restore & Renew is using the latest DNA technology to revolutionise land restoration practices in Australia. Each day our native wildlife are losing their homes as a result of climate change, natural disasters and land development. Through a user-friendly website, Restore & Renew will help landscape practitioners choose the right plants for the right places, to ensure rehabilitated landscapes thrive, and animals and plants return. 12
EDUCATION Providing world-class environmental education for over 40 years. COMMUNITY EDUCATION Over 65,000 participants each year engage in onsite, outreach and virtually connected learning experiences. With a range of programs designed for pre-school, primary and secondary school students, our educators teach children about the importance of plants in our daily lives, and inspire future environmental advocates. WILD PLAY DISCOVERY CENTRE Following the opening of the Ian Potter WILD PLAY Children s Garden, Centennial Park will commission a state-of-the-art education facility to compliment this space, ultimately creating a centre for excellence for nature pedagogy. The WILD PLAY Discovery Centre will enable the expansion of current onsite programs, and deliver a facility that supports training and development of nature educators across the country. 13

HORTICULTURE Delivering imaginative horticulture and beautiful landscapes. THE CALYX A living art gallery showcasing spectacular horticultural displays. Opened for the Garden s 200th birthday and housing the largest green wall in the southern hemisphere, The Calyx inspires people of all ages with the beauty, diversity and relevance of plants. COMMUNITY GREENING This award-winning community outreach project has changed the lives of over 100,000 people since 2000. Community Greening supports social housing tenants, Aboriginal groups, refugee groups, the elderly, the disabled, disadvantaged schools and at-risk youth, providing access to green space, fresh food, education, and a social connection. 14
