P I O N E E R A M A T E U R R A D I O C L U B PARC News - F R E M O N T, N E July, 2009 Volume 19 Issue 7 Two Successful PARC Events Since our June meeting PARC members have been involved in two successful events. The first was Field Day at Camp Fontanelle. The air gun built by Lance, WNØL proved to be a success as it fired the antenna ropes at least 150 feet high over the tallest trees. The Carolina Windom brought by Frank, KØAJA has never been that high before. If you weren't there for the 6 and 10 meter "whoosh" on Saturday evening, you really missed something. Oh, did you hear that I worked Kansas on 432 MHz? Thanks to everybody who helped with Field Day, especially Larry, KØSW for being the chairman, Lance, WNØL for setting up the wireless logging computers, and Mel, KØVLA for providing the generator. The second big event was the 12 th Annual PARC Flea Market in North Bend on Saturday. Over 100 people registered, tables were sold out, and 180 cups of free coffee were dispensed! Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves as they looked over the equipment for sale or just sat and visited with friends. We even had people sign up for next year s event. Another big thanks to everybody who helped with the Flea Market, especially Rich, KBØARZ and Jane, KBØZUN who hosted the event, and Darlene, NØLOP who served up all the delicious food at Darlene s Diner. The Sporadic E propagation is still going strong on 6 meters. We could still use some more operators up on 2 meter and 432 MHz SSB/CW. Oh, did I mention that I worked Kansas on 432 MHz? There is fun to be had up there folks. See you at the PARC meeting on July 24th. Dave T. WØNRW Mel, Dave T., Steve & Rich at the Flea Market Admissions Rich & Jane Flea Market Chairpersons Larry, at his Flea Market Table

Dave T adjourned the meeting at 7:47 p.m. We had two programs: Steve talked about the UPRR hub at North Platte. He brought back brochures and passed them around. This Month Hero s /Gambinos CLUB MEETING: July 24, 2009 Supper at 6:30 Meeting at 7:30 www.k0jfn.com Page 53 Thanks to all for making my 46th Field Day a fun and useful event. We had 6 operators and made 244 contacts on most bands from 80 meters thru 70 centimeters. We called three different 75 meter Nebraska section nets and Antennas used equipment from & Stuff Mel s Korean war era generator to Dave s all-mode UHF Woosh maker and PSK 31. The antennas all played well with Frank s Carolina Windom up at maximum height thanks to Lance s trusty spudgun. The G5RV loaded well on all bands as advertised and worked some European DX to boot. Mel s heavy duty dipole met its match and had to be reinstalled but that was about the only casualty. Joe did some great photos for the web site. The logging network was a real winner, thanks to our network administrator and over the tree top spudgunner WNØL. We show a claimed score of 818 points, submitted by Lance to the ARRL. Thanks to the XYLs for getting the supper all set up. We had a nice get together in the lodge main floor. I can still hear 6 meters going Whoosh, and the flag is still flying!
