Summer Weather Sometimes Colorado experiences heat waves just like the rest of the country. Although this is not the norm, know that the air cools down dramatically at night. On hot days it is recommended to keep the windows CLOSED during the daytime to keep the good cool air inside. Then, OPEN the windows as the sun goes down. There are fans for your use. Weather in the mountains is variable. High winds, rain or snow can come quickly. Dress in layers and be prepared when outside for changes in weather. Do not get caught hiking without proper layers and PLENTY of water for hydration. Water is the ONLY remedy for altitude sickness. Always have sunscreen with you when outside. The sun s rays is 40% more intense at this altitude (9,000 ft. elevation). Thunderstorms are common in the afternoons. We experience dangerous lightning storms and you should take shelter indoors or inside your vehicle when lightning is present. Please unplug the internet modem and any other media or electronic devices in the cabin that may be sensitive to power fluctuations. This will help us keep our maintenance costs low and protect your belongings from damage. Winter Weather Colorado can experience brutal winter weather conditions October through May. Heavy snow, hail, rain and winds are common. If you get stuck while on the Potter s Inn property, please call us for help. Be prepared with proper closing and boots when venturing outside. Check local forecasts frequently. When it is sunny and snow is on the ground, you can easily get sun burned. Always have sunscreen available. Outside Grilling and Open Fire Pit Use Please check the Teller County website for up to date information on a fire restrictions. www.co.teller.co.us OR call the Teller County Sheriff s Office at (719)687-9652 Colorado is very dry during the summer months and we have experienced devastating forest fires as a result. Occasionally the danger is so high that even outside BBQ grilling is prohibited.
