Welcome to the Film Offices of the Hawaiian Islands (FOHI) Green Resource Guide. The Hawaii Film Office along with the four County Film Offices are dedicated to respecting and protecting the State s natural beauty. To that end we have created a green initiative that hopefully will raise the consciousness of both filmmakers and film lovers alike. This tool was designed to help productions minimize their environmental impact while filming in the State of Hawaii. We hope this guide will lead producers to leave a lighter footprint on our island state which means a longer life for our valued resources. This initiative is an entirely voluntary program to encourage production companies to take steps to limit their impact on the environment and maximize their benefits to the community. We hope to educate and encourage filmmakers to be environmentally sensitive and eco-friendly during and after the completion of production. We are recommending that these efforts include set construction, energy usage, resource conservation and recycling. Given the public concern over conditions of global warming and the environment, it only makes sense for the film industry to be forward thinking in the area of environmentally sensitive production. We encourage production companies to come up with their own Green Practices. Remember, if we increase environmental awareness and inspire environmentally conscious habits on an individual level and as an industry as a whole, we are helping protect the planet. As an island state, we have limited available land; we need to extend the life of our local landfills. By using the many resources we have made available in this guide and by working with local vendors, we hope the production community will help by being part of the solution. Making films in a more earth-friendly manner should be important to all in the film community. Most producers employ green practices in their homes and offices, and we hope they will bring this environmental consciousness to the workplace. The Film Offices of the Hawaiian Islands (FOHI) provides this information for the convenience of the user. Any reference to specific products, businesses, or services does not constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by FOHI. We encourage our users to notify us of any omissions or errors in this guide. The Guide has been divided into the following areas: PRODUCTION OFFICE, PAPER/CARDBOARD/OFFICE PRODUCTS, FOOD, ENERGY, DONATING, RECYCLING, TRANSPORTATION E aloha āina. E mālama āina.
