Umm Qais is a city built of Basalt stone a very nice contrast from Jerash which is characterised from ruins of the walled Greco-Roman. Afterwards continue to Pella. Known in Arabic as Tabaqat Fahl; it s one of the most ancient sites in Jordan and a favourite among archaeologists as it s exceptionally rich in antiquities. The city itself seems to have been continuously occupied since Neolithic times for some flints from this period have been found there; and some recent finds 2km north of the city even date back to Paleolithic times, around 100,000 years ago. Across from the theatre and overlooking the city centre lies the Royal tombs on the eastern cliff. The lower part of Petra where the Romans resided after 107 AD, has ruins of Nabatean Temples which are still standing.
