The half-hour program features the Commencement Address given by Jeni Britton Bauer, Founder and Vice President of Jeni s Splendid Ice Creams. This is not the first broadcast of an Ohio State Commencement by WOSU TV. WOSU has been airing all of the pomp and circumstance for close to 40 years. And with the advent of new technologies, we started live streaming the occasion in December of 1997 and as a licensee of OSU, we were one of the first universities in the country to provide this service. WOSU streamed the entire ceremony from the graduates walking in (25 minutes) to the singing of Carmen, Ohio at the end. The tradition of live streaming continues and the impact of providing video through a digital platform has been significant. The live stream of Commencement from spring of this year has been viewed more than 5,000 times. Sixty-six percent of those viewers watched it live and a total of 51 countries viewed the live stream. Through WOSU Productions, we also offer DVD copies of Ohio State s Commencement Address and ceremony highlights. To capture commencement, four cameras are used, the 30-minute broadcast version takes about four hours to edit and then it has to be prepared for closed captioning. The DVD version takes about six hours for our team to edit. To watch the live stream of this year s Summer Commencement, and other programs we capture as a service to the community, visit livestream.com/wosu. And if you miss Jeni Britton Bauer, or your family member in their cap and gown, order your DVD today at wosu.org/television/shop/ohiostate-commencement!
