Safari Itinerary DAY 01: Welcome to Nairobi, Kenya s Bustling Capital Once you arrive at Nairobi s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you ll be warmly received by HTT Operations Manager, who will give you a short brief of your safari. You will then be transferred by private vehicle to Movenpick Hotel located in the heart of Westlands, Nairobi's commercial, retail and entertainment suburb about 20 kilometers from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Movenpick Hotel and Residences provides easy access to the city centre and diplomatic district a perfect base to explore Kenya s capital while staying for business or leisure in 276 spacious rooms, suites and residences. Depending on when you arrive, you may have time to explore the city and its attractions. Some of the most popular excursions include:- Visit to the Karen Blixen Museum (once home to the author of the evocative Out of Africa book). Giraffe Centre; which protects the highly endangered Rothschild's giraffe. David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust; an orphanage for young elephants. Nairobi National Park; the only wildlife national park in the world that is located within a city. Lunch and dinner on own basis. Nairobi city has some lovely restaurants to dine at and some of the well known restaurants are; Carnivore restaurant known for its charcoal grilled meats, soup, salad, dessert and Kenyan tea/coffee. Haandi Indian restaurant known for its mouthwatering north Indian cuisine. Various Chinese and Italian restaurants in the city. DAY 02: from Nairobi to the Iconic Maasai Mara Game Reserve Wake up for a buffet breakfast at Movenpick, then after check out, you ll depart for the ever inviting Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Your morning drive will see you pass through the scenic Great Rift Valley Escarpment. You ll make a brief stopover where you can refresh yourself, soak in the sweeping views below and capture in the moments with awesome photo shots before continuing the journey and arriving at Mara Fig Tree Camp just in time for lunch. Located on the banks of the Talek River, Fig Tree Camp offers both luxury tents and chalet accommodation. A new addition at Fig Tree Camp are the Ngaboli tents; these are 10 presidential tents built on a private wing of the camp. Guests staying at the camp can enjoy game drives and night safaris, game walks, bush black tie dinners and champagne breakfasts on the plains of the Maasai Mara. You will spend the afternoon at your own leisure. In the evening, you ll go for your first game drive and explore the beautiful and scenic Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Evening game drives are recommended as the sun is not hot and wildlife will be coming out of their hideouts. 1830 hrs: Return to the camp for dinner. Overnight at Mara Fig Tree Camp DAY 03/ 04: Enjoy the Sweeping Plains & Wildlife of the Maasai Mara 0630hrs: Depart for a morning game drive. This is the best time to catch the animals as the sun is not ye hot, which increases the chance of the animals to be out in the open plains. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the most popular safari destinations in Africa. The Maasai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya s wildlife viewing areas. There have been some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles and over 450 birds species recorded on the reserve.
Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the big five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino). Other animals that can be spotted here include hippos, cheetahs, gazelles, antelopes, zebras, giraffes, dik-dik, and warthogs among others. The annual wildebeest s migration alone involves over 1.5 million wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and other animals that cross over from the Serengeti to the Maasai Mara in search of pasture and water. They cross the Mara River in July and make the return journey in late October/November. The migration, especially the Mara River crossing has been dubbed one of the 8 th wonders of the modern world. 0830 hrs Return to the camp/lodge for a full buffet breakfast. Alternatively ON ONE OF THESE DAYS, YOU CAN OPT FOR A FULL DAY GAME DRIVE IN THE RESERVE WITH PICNIC LUNCH AT NO EXTRA COST You can opt for a Hot Air Balloon Safari instead of a morning game drive. This is truly a fun and exciting way to see Africa s landscapes and wildlife. The trip is magical: spend about one hour floating over the Mara plains. You float in the sky, drift with the whim of the wind, overlooking the plains, just in time to experience a breathtaking sunrise and catch a bird s eye view of the reserve. Please Note:
BALLOON SAFARI IS BOOKED AT EXTRA COST AS SHOWN BELOW IN OUR EXTRAS. The cost includes Balloon Safari + Out of Africa Bush Breakfast. A certificate will be presented by the pilot after the ride. For a seamless experience, we recommend that you book your Balloon Safari with HTT. Also note that advance booking is recommended in order to avoid paying rack rate on site. Morning spent at leisure. 1230hrs: Enjoy buffet lunch at the camp and later you can spend your afternoon on your own leisure. You can soak in the beauty of the Mara Plains as you relax at the swimming pool. You can also visit a traditional Maasai Village to learn a thing or two about the local culture. At 1600hrs you ll depart for an evening game drive and return to the lodge later for dinner and overnight. DAY 05: Depart Maasai Mara for the Serengeti This is your last day of safari in the Maasai Mara. After a buffet breakfast at the lodge and check out, we ll depart with picnic lunch boxes towards the Tanzanian border, Isebania. You ll reach the border at approx. 1100 hours. You ll be picked and transferred towards Serengeti Sopa Lodge with en-route game drive in the park. Upon arrival after lunch check in and relax. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge
Day 6 Exciting Game Drives in the Serengeti Wake up to a sumptuous breakfast at the lodge. Later you ll enjoy an exciting morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park. The park is undoubtedly the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and the greatest concentration of plains game anywhere. The varied topography and seasons creates a hugely diverse range of landscapes and changing wildlife habitats. Millions of migratory wildebeest, zebra and antelope roam the plains together with their attendant predators such as lion, cheetah, hyena and jackal. All meals and overnight Serengeti Sopa Lodge Day 7 from the Exotic Serengeti to the Panoramic Ngorongoro With picnic lunches, after breakfast, we ll drive into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area via Olduvai Gorge and descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a half day tour. The Crater is a world heritage site that is a haven for a variety of wildlife. Ngorongoro is the remnant of a volcano that blew apart, leaving a flat plain area ringed with steep walls, which now has a large soda lake, fresh springs and sheltering forests. There is a large concentration of animals in the Crater and sightings of the Big Five Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard are almost guaranteed. The structure of the Crater and the wildlife makes for a great African wildlife experience. Ascend after game drive and transfer back to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Day 8: Ngorongoro to Arusha & Onwards Wake up to an early breakfast at the lodge. Afterwards, you ll be transferred to the lodge for check out and later transferred to Arusha where we ll have a brief stopover at a local restaurant for lunch. Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport, connect with your departure flight back home; returning home full of wonderful memories and experiences.
