Regulations Pilgrim Hostel (Albergue) Amigos da Montanha Barcelinhos Since the Middle Age, Barcelos has become a mandatory place to pass by from Porto headeding to Santiago de Compostela, in what is known as the Camino Portuguese, or the Portuguese Route. The city of Barcelos is itself a confluence of paths crossing the river Cávado in the Medieval Bridge. The Cruzeiro do Galo (Cross of the Rooster) currently in the Archaeological Museum of Barcelos, from Barcelinhos, representing the Miracle of St. James exonerating a defendant unjustly condemned to be hanged, is one of the symbols of the city of Barcelos. Crossing old pathways, leading to the attainment of indulgence, symbolized by the "Compostela", the Route is marked also in the opposite direction toward Fatima. The main Jacobean itinerary of the county is also a Pedestrian Route (GR11 E9), seeking to highlight its original context and also to promote a nature and cultural tourism. It s enormous the number of pilgrims going through Barcelinhos with Santiago de Compostela as the destination, passing through the famous Chapel de Nossa Senhora da Ponte (of Our Lady of the Bridge) of medieval origin and a symbolic milestone of the Portuguese Route, at the entrance to the Medieval Bridge. Others travel on pilgrimage in the opposite direction towards Fátima. Bearers of this whole tradition of Barcelinhos and aware of the role of the Amigos da Montanha as an institution with the status of Public Utility, we have as goals the safeguard and promotion of Barcelos cultural, historical, religious and landscape heritage and to support pilgrims that travel our roads, particularly Pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela and to Fátima. Following this objective, we created the Pilgrim Hostel, which from its opening runs according to the following Regulations. 1. Purpose The purpose of these Regulations is to define the whole operation of the Amigos da Montanha Pilgrim Hostel, in Largo dos Penedos, Barcelinhos, Barcelos. 2. Users The Amigos da Montanha Pilgrim Hostel is open to all those who are travelling in pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, to Fátima or to another place of pilgrimage, provided they "Credencial de Peregrino" (Pilgrim Passport), duly stamped at their starting location or the previous place where they stayed. Exceptionally, the Association Amigos da Montanha may authorize the use of the Albergue to members of others associations or non-profit entities that develop sport, culture, youth and social action activities, as well as participants in their activities. 4.
