Welcome message from the IEEE Region 9 Director Dear Friends and Colleagues of IEEE Latin America and the Caribbean: On behalf of Region 9 Executive Committee, I would like to welcome you to the Face-to- Face 2016 Regional Meeting of IEEE Region 9: Latin America and the Caribbean. This is a particularly special meeting as we will be celebrating our 50 th Anniversary. Let us take this opportunity to learn, interact, exchange ideas and experiences, and develop plans to continue to be essential to our region s technical community and professionals and also to continue working to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. Enclosed you will find the agenda with the activities that the Regional Executive Committee has prepared for you. You will note that in this meeting we will have special training sessions on tools, that we hope will help you be better prepared to carry out your functions as volunteers and leaders. We are fortunate to have the participation of distinguished guests from outside Region 9, who will present several programs and projects that may be used in our region. I encourage you to grab the opportunity to interact with them and learn from their vast and varied professional experiences. As in previous years, our Regional Meeting will be held in conjunction with the Region 9 Women in Engineering (WIE) and Young Professionals (YP, formerly GOLD) Meetings. I am sure they will welcome your comments and ideas about how they can better work with our Sections and Committees. You all have received the plans developed by each Region 9 Committee and discussion on them has already started in our 10 th Virtual Meeting. Let us continue this discussion providing feedback to committee chairs either personally or during the appropriate discussion sessions. We hope that the programmed activities will allow for strengthening the friendship among the members of our Regional Committee and we wish you a profitable and enjoyable meeting. I L Welcome message from the IEEE Trinidad and Tobago Section Chair Dear Colleagues, Fellow Volunteers and Friends of IEEE Region 9, It is with great pleasure and humility, that the Executive Committee of the IEEE Trinidad and Tobago Section and the Local Organising Committee, of which I am part, welcome you to the 2016 Regional Meeting of the IEEE Region 9 - Latin America and the Caribbean (RM2016). We are honoured to have been selected to host RM2016. We extend our thanks to the Immediate Past Norberto Lerendegui, our Antonio Ferreira and the Regional Executive Committee for selecting our Section for this singular privilege. We thank them for their tremendous and invaluable support in making this event possible. This 2016 installment of the annual regional meeting celebrates the 50 th Anniversary of IEEE Region 9 and also represents the first time it is being hosted in a native English speaking country. The IEEE Trinidad and Tobago Section wishes you a successful RM2016. Please enjoy our warm hospitality. We hope that you take away happy memories of your time here in Trinidad and Tobago.
