CREW ESSENTIAL GUIDE 2015
Thanks for being a part of the amazing community that Shambala is without you all we d be sitting in an empty field, roasting a rabbit for dinner. You re great! Here s a stack of useful information to help everything run smoothly for you and everyone. Please do take a few minutes to read this. It helps things run much more smoothly if we all know what s going on at the event! What s inside: Exit and RE-EntRy FaQs site map Green Initiatives KEEping your stuff safe to bring or not to bring
Strict Re-entry system Re-entry is permitted in exceptional circumstances only (and for vehicles is based on permissions associated with your pass type). If you must to leave and return (or this is part of your job onsite), you must ensure that your wristband is zapped on exit at the Gate (Red or Blue only), to enable re-entry. If you do not do this, you will not get back in (really). The system is designed to prevent wristbands being passed out, and it doesn t lie. It is your responsibility to get zapped when leaving in the exit lane, at all times. FAQ S Have a query about etickets? For any ticket enquiries please email the person who booked you directly. You need to Validate your etickets in advance simply click the link in your email. For Group Leaders, you need to allocate your tickets and send them in advance. Can I get cash and supplies onsite? There are cash machines open 24 hours a day onsite (note that the fee is 3.49 we cannot do anything about this third party charge), a very well stocked camp shop and bakery during the show days, and all the main bars take cards. When should/can I arrive onsite? Please come when your manger or the person who has booked you has specified, so we are ready for you, not before that day/time. Can I bring a member of the public in before Thursday with me? No, sorry. They will not be permitted access until the gates open on Thursday at 2pm. What happens if I try to smuggle some into the event? This year, having sold out even earlier, there has been immense pressure on tickets. We ve all been there the temptation to slip someone in the back of the van, but just don t. It really does put pressure on everything, and if we find anyone smuggling during searches on entry (or onsite), that ll be the end of your teams relationship with Shambala. We re in it together, or not at all. Where do we camp and park? Your Vehicle Pass will determine where you will park your car, camper van or other vehicle, and will have been pre-arranged by your manager/booker. You will have camping allocated in either (a) a specific campsite for your team, in which case your manager/ booker will provide the information in advance, or (b) be directed to the Crew Camping or Crew Camper Van field. Please note that the main public camping fields are not open to crew and are sterile until the site opens to the public on Thursday at 2pm, to preserve space. Tents will be removed prior to this. What should I say to friends who are thinking of trying to get in without a ticket? It genuinely jeopardises the event license, puts pressure on our services, makes very real the prospect of a massively expensive super-fence and more security and police involvement. Basically, it could end the festival as we know it. You could also mention that we have more fencing, increased perimeter security and more wristband checkpoints, so it s really not worth it. When does the Gate Close? Gates close at 8pm until Wednesday 26th, and 10pm on all days afterwards. Late entries will be turned away before Thursday 27th and parked in a compound overnight after this date. Re-entry of vehicles is not permitted, with the exception of site work and service vehicles. Can we have camp fires? Camp fires in the campsites and camper van fields are allowed! Fires must be: Off the ground (i.e. in a firewok or similar) 2m from any tent and 3m from any vehicle Small, attended to at all times and kept well away from gas canisters/cookers Whats the fancy dress themes this year? The Carnival is cosmic chaos, as voted for by Shambalans. But don t forget about Fruity Friday for a bit of cross-dressing as well!

In 2014 with the help of festival goers we experienced very few thefts. We want to maintain our safe space, so we are continuing our successful Tent Watch campaign: Recycling Five things we re doing: 1. We have increased security and stewarding in all of the campsites 2. There are six Campsite Hubs (see map), which will provide a 24 hour info point and become the centre of camping neighbourhoods, ready to receive news of any tent thefts so we can act super-quickly 3. The perimeter is more secure, with more fencing, lighting, increased security and dog patrols 4. Pass out system this year if you need to pop out to your car in the car park your wristband will be zapped, so we can check you should be coming back in make sure you get zapped on exit or you will not gain re-entry! 5. We have a specialist campsite response team Five things you can do: 1. Don t bring unnecessary valuables 2. Use the locker service onsite to securely store valuables (details below) 3. Be sensible with your stuff in your campsite and in tents at night 4. Know your neighbours create a community and look out for each other 5. Report ANYTHING suspicious or any thefts immediately to a steward, member of security team or Campsite Hub so we can respond quickly OR ring the onsite 24hr hotline (see program for number). The Recycling Deposit only applies to public tickets as they have paid it when buying tickets. But just so you know about it, to claim back a 10 Recycling Deposit, they bring their bag of recycling (green bag see text on the bag for what to put inside) and a bag of other waste (clear bag) to one of the two Recycling Exchanges on Sunday (10am 8pm) or Monday (9am Midday). The first 1000 can choose to grab a token, and come to the Information Point for an official Festival Pack with T Shirt, Calendar & CD worth 25! Beautiful Campsites Please help us to recycle everything we can in the crew areas as a festival with significant number of crew, it makes a real difference. We are aiming to recycle everything which can be recycled this year (circa 65% of all waste), and we are now seeing it as a competition between public and crew - let s lead the way. You can help by: Keeping your campsite tidy and using separate bags Making sure food waste is separate - food with recyclables means it goes to landfill If you have no recycling bins, please let your manager know Thanks - lets keep Shambala the most beautiful festival there is!
Bring a Bottle To Bring or Not To Bring There will continue to be no bottled water or drinks for sale onsite or given to crew as part of our drive to eliminate disposable plastics from the festival. Please remember to bring a re-usable bottle with you. We have provided many more taps again this year. There are also a limited amount of 500ml ( 7) and 750ml ( 12) stainless steel bottles for sale at the FRANK Water stall. All profits go to our partner charity, FRANK Water. Bar Cups 1 ECO cup Levy All plastic bar cups onsite are re-usable, dramatically reducing disposable waste. A levy of 1 is charged on your first drink and then subsequent cups are exchanged free of charge, or can be exchanged for a token if you don t want another drink at that moment. The levy is to make sure they come back so we can re-use them. Please do bring: A water bottle we have no bottled water for sale onsite. Fancy dress for Saturday night. An instrument to strum around the fire or at the Hurley Burley and Coyote Moon open mic stages Wellies and warm stuff etc. just in case. Any equipment and safety clothing you require for your work. We are very strict about site and working safety. Please don t bring: Flares / fireworks or fire lanterns (sad we know, but cows die from eating them and tents get set on fire etc) Glass we cannot allow glass on site for safety Generators only site provided generators are allowed. Anything to sell we don t allow fly pitching. Nitrous Oxide / laughing gas (It will be confiscated. Please help us to rid the event if this- it s massively harmful to the environment) Excessive amounts of booze our bars will be reasonably priced. Dogs, chimps, lizards or any other family pets.
