Village of Gle Elly QUARTERLY Crescet Boulevard Roadway Improvemets This summer, the Village of Gle Elly completed roadway work o Crescet Boulevard betwee Park Boulevard ad Hickory Road. The project was desiged to provide traffic, safety ad aesthetic improvemets alog this stretch of roadway that borders o Glebard West High School ad also serves as a gateway to Gle Elly. Prior to costructio work, Crescet Boulevard ear dowtow Gle Elly was crumblig, lacked adequate sidewalks ad draiage, ad allowed ucotrolled movemet of cars ad pedestrias. To develop the ew roadway cofiguratio, the Village worked closely with School District 87. The outcome was a project that features a compact urba roudabout that simplifies travel patters ad allows legal U-turs, ad a ladscaped barrier media that provides better directio to pedestrias ad ties the street architecturally to its surroudigs. Other chages iclude improved roadway aligmet, ew parkig ad drop-off areas, shared travel laes ad retaiig walls that preserve right-of-way while ehacig aesthetics. WINTER 2015 www.gleelly.org Jue Water Mai Break O Jue 16, the Village experieced a sigificat water mai break at the DuPage River mai crossig causig a drop i water pressure for a small portio of Gle Elly, which prompted the Village to issue a boil order for affected residets. Sice the break, progress was made o how to best repair the large diameter pipe, located o the east side of Roosevelt Road. I September, the Village s cotractor made the appropriate repairs to the affected sectios of the water mai. Subsequet pressure testig was performed o the water mai uder the river to cofirm that it was still i good workig order. Because the water mai uder the river was off for a exteded period of time, the ecessary disifectig process took place together with the proper testig to esure the water mai was free of cotamiatio. The service was the reistated o October 9 with o further issues reported. Village staff is curretly evaluatig the coditio of the water mai o the west side of the river to address ay eeded repairs that would help avoid similar breaks i the future. Cross Coectio Cotrol Notice The Illiois Evirometal Protectio Agecy (IEPA) requires every water supplier to develop ad implemet a comprehesive cross coectio cotrol program to elimiate existig cross coectios ad protect agaist all future cross coectios o potable drikig water systems. Regulatios are eforced to keep drikig water safe. Residetial backflow preveters may be foud o law irrigatio systems, wet fire protectio systems, hot water heatig (boiler) systems, swimmig pool fills, water features ad the like. Backflow preveters may also be required if there is aother water source o the site, such as a well, pod, river, etc. If your backflow preveter is located outdoors, remember to remove ad store it someplace warm for the witer. Isulatio ad/or heat tape may be isufficiet. Next sprig you will eed to provide the backflow preveter to your law irrigatio cotractor or plumber for reistallatio. Plumbig Code requires that your backflow preveter be tested immediately upo re-istallatio. Dowtow Streetscape Pla At a recet workshop, the Village Board reviewed ad discussed a prelimiary Dowtow Streetscape Pla, which lays out a multi-year capital fudig effort to improve streets ad sidewalks throughout the cetral busiess district. The pla also cotemplates improvemets to lightig, trees ad ladscapig, ad ehacig overall pedestria safety. Sow is typically removed from the ceter to the curb i a series of four passes.
