GUEST SPEAKER TIM FISCHER AC IN SUPPORT OF Yass Town Crookwell STARPS Lachlan Valley Junee Roundhouse COOTAMUNDRA - BOREE CREEK 1-2 APRIL 2017 GREG STOCK FINANCIAL SERVICES

FROM THE WATTLE TOWN OF COOTAMAMUNDRA TO BOREE CREEK BY STEAM ENGINE A er the success of our last two history making tours to Naradhan and Lake Cargelligo, S.M.U.T. Tours is back with another history making tour to one of the Riverina best kept secrets. Boree Creek is famous for two things the truncated terminus of the now grain only branch line from The Rock and it was tagged the seat of power as the hometown of the 10th Deputy Prime Minister of Australia. It s a lazy li le town home to just over 200 people its primarily wheat country and for those who have driven the back road from Lockhart to Narrandera it plays host to a lovely li le pub. Whats more it hasn t seen the visit of a steam train in over 30 years. But that s about to change as the Strange Modelers of Universal Trains Social Group, in conjunc on with Lachlan Valley Railway, ask you to join us on the Boiler to Boree a run for preserva on. Not only will this trip represent a rare opportunity to ride the rails to this unique des na on you will also be able to rub shoulders with one of this countries most high profile railfans Mr. Tim Fischer AC. The 10th Deputy Prime Minister of Australia Mr Fischer spent a remarkable 41 years in public office at both State and Federal level before becoming the Australian ambassador to the Holy See for three years in 2009. A long me passionate railfan Mr. Fischer has kindly offered to speak over lunch as we celebrate the arrival of the first steam locomo ve into town this century. Leaving Cootamundra at 7.00am in Lachlan Valley Railways genuine 1930s built compartment carriages, you can look forward to enjoying breakfast and a tea or coffee in your seat to the sight and sound of an 1890s built steam locomo ve on the Main Southern Line. P Class 3237 will be pushing herself to the limit as we travel up and over the spiral at Bethungra and through to Junee. 3237 will invoke wonderful memories of a me long past as she tackles the single line across the Murrumbidgee River and into Wagga Wagga for more passenger pickups. Uranquinty was once the junc on point for the line to Kywong will pass quickly as the iconic granite spire of The Rock comes into view as we arrive at the junc on sta on to take water. From The Rock we swing right and venture south west out on what is the former branch line to Oaklands. We will pass through some of the states most produc ve whea ields - unique places as French Park, Milbrulong and Tootool before we take a quick stop at picturesque Lockhart and then head to Boree Creek for lunch. While the P Class is serviced and watered we encourage you to join us in the War Memorial Hall for a sumptuous meal put on by well known Boree Creek publicans Jenny and Phil. Boree Creek most famous son Tim Fischer is our guest speaker. Mid-a ernoon we ll make our way back on board for a leisurely run back to Wagga Wagga. The largest city in the Riverina Wagga Wagga will be our base for the night with plenty of accommoda on op ons just a stones throw from the railway sta on. On Sunday, it will be a later departure at 10am as we venture back up the single line to the railway town of Junee. Wander the shopping district, enjoy a coffee in the refurbished railway café or take the bus to the Junee Locomo ve Depot Museum. Our a ernoon departure seeing us again tackle the impressive Bethungra Spiral to have us back into Cootamundra by mid a ernoon. Given its been over thirty years since a steam train has graced the rails west of The Rock it is an event to capture the imagina on. HELP US TO HELP THEM! WITH SPECIAL THANKS TO THIS TOUR AIMS TO HELP THE FOLLOWING PRESERVATION GROUPS THROUGH IT S OPERATION. YASS TOWN, JUNEE ROUNDHOUSE, LACHLAN VALLEY RAILWAY, CROOKWELL AND STARPS.
