NHBC NEW HOME STATISTICS REVIEW 2017 NHBC statistics represent a unique source of detailed up-to-date information on new home construction and the house-building industry. The figures relate to new homes registered with NHBC for its ten-year warranty, which covers around 80 per cent of all new homes built in the UK. NHBC figures are available well ahead of Government figures. As such, we represent the only source of up-to-date information on new home registrations. 37,936 new homes registered in 2017 8,853 new homes registered in the affordable sector in 2017 29,083 new homes registered for the private sector in 2017 32,477 new homes completed in 2017 NEW HOME REGISTRATIONS - QUARTER ON QUARTER COMPARISON 60,000 50,000 Volume 40,000 30,000 20,000 10,000 0 2007 Q1 2007 Q2 2007 2007 Q4 2008 Q1 2008 Q2 2008 2008 Q4 2009 Q1 2009 Q2 2009 2009 Q4 2010 Q1 2010 Q2 2010 2010 Q4 2011 Q1 2011 Q2 2011 2011 Q4 2012 Q1 2012 Q2 2012 2012 Q4 2013 Q1 2013 Q2 2013 2013 Q4 2014 Q1 2014 Q2 2014 2014 Q4 2015 Q1 2015 Q2 2015 2015 Q4 2016 Q1 2016 Q2 2016 2016 Q4 2017 Q1 2017 Q2 2017 Source: NHBC (Appendix table 1) NEW HOME REGISTRATION HISTORY - 12 MONTHS 20,000 18,000 16,000 14,000 12,000 10,000 8,000 6,000 4,000 2,000 0 Volume 2015/16 2016/17 16,411 12,160 11,291 15,217 10,752 11,424 10,241 11,581 12,147 13,263 14,076 17,572 14,070 12,711 12,643 14,676 14,120 13,014 10,530 11,768 12,493 13,554 12,923 12,614 Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Source: NHBC

NHBC ANNUAL NEW HOME STATISTICS REVIEW 2017 Regional overview REGIONAL REGISTRATIONS 2016 vs 2017 Despite the dip in volumes over the course of the quarter in Northern Ireland, the private sector is actually up on the same time last year and generally the market is active, with developers positive about the future. The fall in social housing registrations can be attributed to the Department for Communities lowering their targets due to budget cuts, in addition to there being no Local Assembly in Stormont. However, growth areas include Mid Ulster and the North West which are both proving popular with consumers and builders alike. Padraig Venney, NHBC, Regional Director - Northern Ireland 2,033 3,056 +50% Scotland 1,552 2,078 +34% North East Scotland has had a very positive quarter, with new home numbers considerably up on the same time 12 months ago, in both the private and affordable sectors. Overall, builders and developers are enjoying an upturn in fortunes, with limited availability of housing stock driving demand. The Help to Buy scheme continues to assist and we are witnessing high levels of growth in the Lothian and Renfrewshire areas. Malcolm MacLeod, NHBC Director Scotland 2,301 2,104-9% 4,784 4,609 Yorkshire & Humberside 1,012 749-26% Northern Ireland & IOM 2,748 3,513 +28% -4% North West 1,296 1,638 Wales +26% 3,575 2,513 +42% East Midlands 6,330 6,697 3,571 3,992 +12% Eastern 3,860 2,494-35% -30% London West Midlands 3,946 3,431 +6% 2016-13% South West South East 2017 Wales enjoyed an encouraging period over the last three months with registration numbers well ahead of the same time last year. Confidence appears buoyant within the industry as builders aim to deliver the new, quality homes that the country needs. Popular areas for homebuyers currently include areas of Newport and Cardiff, with encouraging reports of some builders now looking to venture further West. Paul Edwards, NHBC, Regional Director - West & Wales Overall, new home registration numbers for are slightly ahead of last year, which is promising news. A number of areas experienced notable growth, such as the East Midlands and North East when compared to the same period last year, with strong numbers also coming through in the South East. Builder confidence remains positive as we approach the end of a challenging year. Steve Catt, NHBC, Senior Regional Director Source: NHBC (Appendix table 2) PAGE 2 OF 7
