To Get/Bring Provisions: A cup for each person (including kids). Coffee cup is fine. Tent (if need to borrow one let Dan Potter know) Much bedding. Blankets/sheets are fine if you do not wish to buy sleeping bags. Bring a blanket to go under you, especially if using an air mattress. Insect Repellent (non-aerosol), with DEET (best one per person) Sun screen Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos Book Wallet / Money / Identification Flashlight and extra batteries Toilet Paper Lawn chairs (one per person if you have them) One deck of playing cards (for rain activities) Do not have kids bring pocket knives Clothing: It may get cold at night. Bring more clothes than you think are needed. Rain Coat or Poncho Hat Comfortable walking shoes (sandals or other shoes with large holes not recommended) P J.s or sleeping clothes Sweatshirt Extra underwear Extra Socks Extra shoes/boots Extra Long Pants Comb, Toothbrush, soap, etc. Knitted afghan (to put over your face if sleeping on an especially cold night) Shorts are not recommended this weekend (ticks) Optional Blow up mattress for the adults (We usually have a battery operated inflator if need to borrow) Camera/Film Hammer for installing and pulling tent stakes Pillows Canteen or Water bottle EpiPen if have dangerous allergies Before You Leave 1. Have your scout dressed in uniform with long pants and socks and shoes (no open toed shoes or sandals please.) Siblings and adults should have likewise shoes, socks and long pants. 2. Inform your kids of these rules: a. Do not place anything in the fire. Do not play around the fire. b. We use the buddy system. Kids are not to go out of sight of their tent or the shelter without someone with them. They do not walk to the latrine alone. c. Even with a buddy, scouts are only allowed to go to the latrine & back via the road. They are not to go along the trails without an adult. With an adult they are not to go off the trails. d. No food in the tents. (Animals go where they smell food). 3. Plan the trip: Camp Oakarro- 40635 Mill Creek Road in Wadsworth, IL - About an hour drive. See attached Map. Upon Arriving at the Campground 1. Follow the attached map to our site. You will be unloading there and taking the car back to the parking lot. 2. Upon exiting the car, immediately spray your shoes, ankles, lower pant legs and arms with bug repellant. (The ticks are out in full force) 3. Orient yourself and your kids to the direction of the latrine (on the map, further down the road). 4. Check-in at the shelter. Sign check-in list. Learn the location of the first aid kit. 5. Select a spot for your tent and proceed to set up tent and unload clothes and sleeping gear. If you need help setting up the tent there will be helpers available. 6. When finished setting up, drive car back to parking lot you passed on the way in. Park & walk back to camp. 7. Games will be going on in the Activity Area 2 (nearest area to our site) for those completed with set-up.
