This picture shows a sign for a ride called The Snake. It goes over 3 mountains and has 489 curves. Butch and I rode this the other day. It s an excellent ride. After the first Mountain you come into Shady Valley TN & The country store. The owner is very pro motorcycle. She participates in a rally which is located nearby on private land the end of July. After a break headed onto the next 2 mountains. In the 30 s & 40 s Swain County gave a majority of its private land to the US government to build the Fontana Lake. In return the gov t was to build a 30 mile road around the lake from Bryson City to Fontana NC. The Gov t only built about 5 miles of the road and this tunnel is the end of the line. The locals call this the road to nowhere. Pictures by Steve Didion

Butch and I just completed the Back of the Dragon. Hwy 16 in VA. This ride is much longer and with more curves than the tail of the Dragon. It covers up and over 3 mountains. Above is the Reynolds Museum of Art in Winston Salem NC. This was the home of RJ Reynolds (RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co.) and his wife Katharine who named the house. Construction started in 1912 and finished in 1917. You can tour most of the house but can t take photos. Pictures by Steve Didion
