Mudslide closes part of rail-trail The Dominion Post A mudslide dangerously close to the rail-trail near Uffington has prompted officials to close that section of trail. Anita Mayer, Mon River Trails Conservancy president, said construction along W.Va. 73 on top of the hill has caused a landslide endangering the trail. The slide is about a half-mile from the Morgantown Utility Board water treatment plant, and about 1 1/2 miles from Uffington. The slide hasn't stopped in the past several days, she said. At one time the mud was 15-20 feet deep along the trail. "We don't know the stability of that whole hillside," Mayer said. "But it is an isolated problem. Engineers will inspect the hillside, she said. The trail will remain closed until further notice. http://www.montrails.org/news/2002_05_05.html Mudslide closes part of Mon trail May 5, 2002 A large mudslide has closed the Mon River Trail from the Morgantown City limits to the Uffington Bridge. The Mon River Trails Conservancy is working to clean the trail, stabilize the hillside, and re-open the trail as soon as it is safe. MRTC Landslide Photos May 2002 3
